About us

The Surgical Department at Sahlgrenska is specialized in breast and melanoma, endocrine, upper gastrointestinal, and trauma surgical care and treatment. Within the department, there are three wards (wards 132, 136, 137/Trauma), two intermediate units within wards 132 and 136, and an outpatient clinic with an associated day care unit and research unit. We provide both acute and planned care, where planned care occupies just under half of our care resources and mainly consists of care for patients with various cancer diagnoses.

About the job responsibilities

At the surgical outpatient clinic, we work to investigate and treat patients with surgical conditions and can offer you an interesting and varied job with opportunities to develop in your professional role. As a nurse/contact nurse with us, you will work with various tasks such as telephone advice, drop-in consultations, admissions, investigations, as well as treatment and follow-up of surgical patients. You will also work in our day care unit where we assess patients prior to possible admission, care for patients undergoing treatments or day surgery both before and after procedures. We also have close collaboration between outpatient care, inpatient care, and our research unit. You will also have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in one or more areas of responsibility depending on your skills and interests. For example, there are cross-functional groups based on SKR's risk areas.

Here, several professional categories work together, such as doctors, nurses, specialist nurses, nursing assistants, dietitians, social workers, and administrative staff. You will work alongside your colleagues, with and for the patient, to create participation with a focus on continuity, accessibility, and high quality in nursing care. We are committed to creating good conditions for everyone to perform well and for both patients and employees to thrive with us. There is an opportunity for exchange between units, and some weekend work is included to stimulate development and competence. You will also have the opportunity to actively participate in improvement work and projects conducted in our unit.

About qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse with a strong interest in surgery. We place great importance on personal qualities such as the ability to work independently, flexibility, and interest in working with people in vulnerable life situations. Work experience as a nurse and specialist or contact nurse training is an advantage.
