Welcome to apply for a job with us!

We are looking for a PhD candidate to develop and understand lead-free perovskites, as well as to explore their potential in solar cells.

Your Responsibilities

Halide perovskites have emerged as one of the most promising materials for the next generation of optoelectronic devices, particularly in solar cells, LEDs, photodetectors, and lasers. Their rapid increase in efficiency, from ~3% in 2009 to over 26% today, competes with and even surpasses conventional silicon solar cells. These remarkable advancements are due to their exceptional optoelectronic properties.

Despite their promise, a major concern regarding halide perovskites is toxicity, primarily due to lead content (Pb). To address these issues, researchers are investigating lead-free alternatives (e.g., tin-based perovskites) and encapsulation strategies to prevent lead leakage. Additionally, recycling methods are being developed to reclaim lead and other materials from perovskite solar cells, making them more environmentally sustainable. The PhD candidate will focus on designing and synthesizing new promising lead-free perovskites, such as anti-perovskites, understanding their electronic and photoelectronic properties, and exploring their potential in solar cell devices.

As a PhD candidate, you will dedicate yourself to your doctoral education and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental duties, up to 20% of full-time.

Your Qualifications

You have completed a master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials, or a related field, or have completed courses totaling at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits are at the master's level in physics, chemistry, materials, or a related field, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way.

Qualified candidates are expected to:

  • Independently conduct research activities
  • Collaborate openly as part of a team
  • Act as a source of information and advice to other group members regarding scientific protocols and experimental techniques
  • Initiate research-related tasks
  • Acquire new knowledge
  • Have prior experimental experience related to the job description above – particularly related to physics and/or materials/device development.

Please include a statement of intent that outlines: 1. Why you want to pursue a PhD 2. Why you are interested in this position and 3. Why you believe you are qualified for this position.

Your Workplace

Our optoelectronics group focuses on solution-processed energy materials/devices, primarily based on semiconductor perovskites and organic semiconductors (https://liu.se/forskning/optoelektronik (https://liu.se/forskning/optoelektronik)). The group is part of the Department of Electronic and Photonic Materials, where we develop photonic and electronic materials for energy conversion and storage.

About the Employment

Upon taking up the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here.

The position is temporary for four years full-time. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Extension of employment up to five years may occur based on the extent of teaching and departmental duties. In special circumstances, further extensions may be granted.

Start date by agreement.

Salary and Benefits

The PhD salary is regulated based on a locally agreed salary scale. Read more about employee benefits here.
