We are looking for an engaged and strategically oriented development engineer to strengthen our team in steel testing. Location: Oxelösund.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the future and sustainability of our planet. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges that connect our cities, and in tomorrow's cars. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries that emits the most greenhouse gases in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free process for steel production, and by around 2030, we will be virtually fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will be important in realizing this goal and thus contributing to a green transition of the entire steel industry.

About the position

As a development engineer within the testing organization, you are a key person responsible for developing, implementing, and ensuring that quality strategies, processes, and management systems meet our requirements. An important part of your mission will be your role as quality leader since parts of the operation are accredited. Your main focus will be on mechanical testing.

The Testing Department consists of three sections that cover Oxelösund's needs for testing in the areas of mechanical testing, chemistry, and metallography. The testing performed is a crucial part of ensuring feedback to the steel manufacturing process, issuing certificates with the products delivered, testing for research and development, etc. It is very important that the testing results have high reliability and are performed efficiently, which we achieve through strong collaborations. We have an exciting time ahead with the climate transition in the steel industry. The need for testing has increased and is expected to continue to rise as new and more advanced steel products are demanded.

Your main responsibilities

  • Develop the operation to meet set goals regarding production, quality, delivery reliability, and costs from a more strategic perspective.
  • Be responsible for quality management and ensure that our work follows the standard for testing laboratories ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Compile and analyze statistics and key figures to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Contribute to and drive assignments in internal and external contexts such as projects, committees, investments, etc.
  • Work closely with the department's sections and other departments within SSAB to ensure that testing meets the company's needs and is continuously developed and improved.
  • Participate in both internal and external quality audits.

About you

  • You have a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • You have experience working with testing.
  • Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and experience in quality management.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • You have strong analytical skills and strategic thinking.
  • Have a good ability to drive activities and create improvements in operations.
