Summer Job at the County Administrative Board - Nature Reserves
Are you interested in working with nature and outdoor life issues in a hands-on and practical way? We at the County Administrative Board are now looking for you who want to work this summer taking care of the county's nature reserves!
Job Responsibilities
The County Administrative Board creates and manages nature reserves. The management work includes carrying out conservation measures and making the areas accessible to visitors. If you want to work practically with these types of issues, this is a summer job for you!
During June, you will mainly work on clearing paths and trails. After that, there will be greater variation in tasks, including mowing, emptying insect traps, and inspecting reserve boundaries, fences, and outdoor facilities. You will also perform simpler maintenance tasks for outdoor facilities, such as boardwalks and sign stands, and minor conservation clearings. Administrative work is also included, mainly related to reporting and documenting completed measures.
About the Workplace
You will work in the Nature Conservation and Management Unit in the Department of Nature and Environment. We have 15 employees in the unit who work with the establishment and management of nature reserves, action programs for threatened terrestrial species (ÅGP), terrestrial environmental monitoring, outdoor life, and green infrastructure.
We are an experienced, cheerful, and dedicated team that collaborates with others to preserve the most important and valuable natural environments in our county. Overall, there is fantastic experience and competence here, and as a summer employee with us, you have good opportunities to develop your knowledge of conservation management. You will also gain insight into the County Administrative Board's work with nature conservation, biodiversity, and outdoor life.
As a workplace, the County Administrative Board is a responsible authority that strives to enable a good balance between work and private life, which is reflected in flexibility regarding working hours. You will find the County Administrative Board centrally located in Västerås, near the train station.
When Does the Work Take Place?
The summer job has a flexible arrangement, but you will likely work from week 23 to week 33, with one or a couple of weeks off if you wish. If you can work several weeks, either before or after the specified period, please indicate this in your application.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a strong interest and good knowledge of nature, and who is used to being outdoors regardless of the weather.
We are looking for someone who:
- can handle and enjoys physical work
- has completed brush cutter training and holds a brush cutter certificate (at least level RA)
- is computer literate
- has basic Swedish language skills
- has some knowledge of conservation or ecology and can identify our most common species, such as trees and shrubs
- has a B driver's license
It is an advantage to have:
- ongoing or completed education focused on conservation and/or forestry at the university or college level
- chainsaw certification
- experience or knowledge of working with GIS
- experience in nature inventory or carrying out conservation measures
The job includes having contacts with employees at the County Administrative Board and with external individuals such as landowners, animal keepers, contractors, and the public. It is important that you feel comfortable in situations where you need to communicate with people you do not know.
We would like you to be curious, attentive, and able to easily understand and follow instructions. It is important that you can work relatively independently and take responsibility. We place great emphasis on personal suitability and see it as natural that you contribute to a good working atmosphere.
