Associate Professor in Energy Technology

Subject Description

The subject of energy technology encompasses the development of technologies and processes for sustainable energy supply. The research is focused on biofuel technology and energy-efficient utilization in industry and society.

Job Responsibilities

The position involves establishing and conducting research within our energy systems area with a particular focus on the role of hydrogen in the energy system. As an associate professor, you are expected to strengthen research and doctoral education in the field and contribute expertise in the hydrogen area to complement the current research profile of the field. The position includes responsibility for research and supervision of doctoral students. An important task within the position is to actively participate in the university's investment in the hydrogen area within the framework of LTU's center formation Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden (CH2ESS) where you are expected to contribute to:

  • Implementation of needs-driven, excellent research as well as creating collaborations and seeking external funding to finance and expand research within both the energy technology area and other relevant subject areas for hydrogen. The research within CH2ESS covers the entire value chain for hydrogen, i.e., energy supply, production, distribution, storage, and use of hydrogen.
  • Development of new education in collaboration with colleagues at LTU as well as with other actors in society.
  • Developing national and international networks to support the development of the hydrogen area.

Eligibility

Eligible for appointment as an associate professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence. Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific competence.

To meet the requirements for appointment as an associate professor, the applicant must:

  • demonstrate a research profile with clear progression after the dissertation work and scientific contributions corresponding to at least two doctoral theses including the doctoral thesis
  • have worked as an independent researcher, including:
    • experience of research-related trust assignments such as reviewer for journals and/or opponent
    • experience of having applied for and been granted external funding for research and/or development projects in competition
    • experience of having held a leading role in research projects
    • having published together with researchers in other research environments than their own
  • have experience of supervision at the doctoral level and acted as a co-supervisor for at least one doctoral student for at least two years, unless there are compelling reasons otherwise
  • demonstrate pedagogical competence through reflective experience, teaching skills, and teaching development
  • have completed higher education pedagogical training corresponding to 7.5 credits, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge
  • demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, including:
    • making new knowledge accessible to the surrounding society
    • incorporating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts.

  • ability to teach in Swedish and/or English
  • skills to develop and lead operations and staff within the university
  • administrative skills that are significant in relation to the subject content and the tasks included in the employment
