The Water and Wastewater Department at Karlstad Municipality is responsible for the important task of producing drinking water, treating wastewater, and managing stormwater.

We face a number of challenges in the coming years. We are expanding the water and wastewater facilities as the city grows, while our existing pipeline network needs to be renewed and developed to meet future demands for capacity, environment, and safety. We are future-proofing the water supply for coming generations. Now we are looking for you who want to contribute to this important mission!

Job Responsibilities

The trainee program will give you a unique insight into the entire process of building and managing Karlstad Municipality in the water and wastewater area. The program runs from September 2025 to June 2026. After completing the trainee program, there are good opportunities for employment as a water engineer, investigator, or project manager within the pipeline network.

During your year as a trainee, you will experience several different roles. You will work with everything from long-term and strategic planning to fixing water leaks in a work pit alongside execution teams. You will see all sides of our operations and have the opportunity to understand the whole picture.

The program is structured in several different blocks, and the idea is for you to build on your practical and theoretical knowledge to become as self-sufficient as possible. The experience and network you will gain will be valuable for your future career. The blocks will be interspersed with relevant training that provides you with additional knowledge and opportunities for personal development.

Qualifications

We are looking for an engaged and curious trainee for the Water and Wastewater Department. You should be a recent graduate with a degree in engineering. Your latest degree should be no more than two years old, and to be accepted into the trainee program, you must have obtained your degree before the start of the program.

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. To thrive in the trainee program, you need to easily establish contacts and adapt to different groups. As a person, you are responsible, structured, and have analytical skills, as well as being able to express yourself well in both speech and writing.

Good computer skills and a valid driver's license (B) are required.
