PhD Candidate in Industrial Engineering with a Focus on User Perspective in Energy Transition
Project Description
You will work in the project Searching for flexibility within the GRASS graduate school at Campus Gotland, where you will sit alongside other PhD candidates and participate in the activities of the graduate school.
The project is also strongly related to Campus Gotland's focus area Energy Transition, Wind and Water and the research conducted by the USER research group.
The goal of the project is to investigate the needs and possibilities for a more flexible use of electricity in future energy systems. Two PhD candidates will approach this issue from two different angles in collaboration with each other and with an experienced group supervisor.
The specific PhD project focuses on the social need and potential for demand flexibility on Gotland. The social need refers to the perceived need for flexibility in the energy system from local stakeholders. The social potential is addressed in terms of electricity consumers' willingness and ability to engage in flexible electricity consumption and invest in products for this purpose. You will also study the roles that electricity consumers and energy communities can play in realizing the theoretical flexibility potential on Gotland, as well as the role that economic instruments, in the form of dynamic electricity prices and grid tariffs, can play in promoting demand flexibility. You will apply a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, primarily interviews and surveys. You will collaborate with another PhD candidate who focuses on the technical need and potential for demand flexibility on Gotland.
Responsibilities
The main task for a PhD candidate is to engage in their doctoral education, which includes participation in research projects as well as doctoral courses. The responsibilities may also include involvement in teaching and other departmental work, but no more than 20% of the working time.

Qualification Requirements
As an applicant for this position, you should have a master's degree or at least a bachelor's degree in systems in technology and society, industrial economics, industrial management and innovation, sustainable system transition, sustainable development, or another relevant social science, humanities, natural science, or technical discipline. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written. Good ability to collaborate.
For employment as a PhD candidate, it is required that you are admitted or will be admitted to doctoral education, where the degree of ability to benefit from doctoral education is crucial.
Other Meritorious Qualifications
Knowledge of the energy system, its actors, and their respective activities, as well as the challenges posed by the transition of the energy system, is meritorious. Knowledge of different methodological approaches and a genuine interest in interdisciplinary issues within the relevant subject area and good knowledge of Swedish is also meritorious. The fact that the doctoral education is conducted in an interdisciplinary environment means that your disciplinary background is of secondary importance in relation to your approach to and interest in the doctoral subject, research area, and interdisciplinarity itself.
