Electricity Prices Today: A Golden Opportunity for Free Energy

Today, on October 24, 2024, electricity prices in Sweden are exceptionally low during the early morning hours. Between midnight and 4:59 AM, electricity prices are so low that it is actually free to use electricity. This means you can shower, bathe, charge your electric car, or play games on your computer without any cost during these hours.

Night Electricity Prices: Negative and Zero

During the first hours of the day, from 00:00 to 04:59, electricity prices range between -1.14 öre and 0 öre per kWh. This means that you actually get paid to use electricity, a rare opportunity that can be utilized for energy-intensive activities.

Free Energy for Household Activities

With these low prices, you can enjoy a cost-free shower, bath, or dishwashing. A shower, which typically consumes 4 kWh, would actually generate a small income of 4 öre during the cheapest hour. Charging an electric car with 60 kWh of energy would give you back 68 öre.

Daytime Electricity Prices

After the early morning hours, electricity prices start to rise. Between 6:00 AM and 9:59 AM, prices reach up to 45 öre per kWh. During these hours, it may be more cost-effective to avoid energy-intensive activities.

Morning and Afternoon Electricity Prices

From 10:00 AM to 7:59 PM, electricity prices range between 19 öre and 48 öre per kWh. Today's most expensive hour falls between 6:00 PM and 6:59 PM, when the price reaches 48 öre per kWh. This is a time when it may be wise to minimize electricity consumption.

Evening Prices

After 8:00 PM, electricity prices gradually decrease again, from 19 öre to 10 öre per kWh at midnight. This means it may be more economical to postpone certain activities to later in the evening.

Tomorrow: More Stable Prices

Tomorrow, on October 25, 2024, electricity prices are expected to be more stable. Prices will vary between 2 öre and 25 öre per kWh throughout the day.

Morning and Afternoon

During the morning hours, from 00:00 to 05:59, prices range between 2 öre and 4 öre per kWh. Prices slightly increase during the morning and afternoon, but never exceed 25 öre per kWh.

Evening Prices

During the evening hours, from 6:00 PM to 11:59 PM, prices vary between 14 öre and 7 öre per kWh. This provides a good opportunity to plan energy-intensive activities during these times to save money.

Trivia: Electricity Prices in a Broader Perspective

If we had the lowest electricity price throughout the year, it would have cost -205 SEK to heat a medium-sized house of 160 sqm. However, with the highest electricity price, the cost would have been as much as 8,555 SEK. This demonstrates the significant impact that electricity prices can have on household energy expenses.
