The School of Textiles is a hub for competence supply in the textile and fashion sector through education at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as doctoral levels, covering both artistic fashion and textile design and fields such as technology, economics, and management. This is complemented by research activities and close collaboration with the industry. The School of Textiles conducts extensive research in textile material technology, polymeric textile fibers, textile reinforcements for composites, smart textiles, textile management, and textile design.
At the School of Textiles, theory and creativity are combined with practical work in our labs. We are looking for a teaching technician for our garment technology lab, with a focus on garment technology, industrial sewing, and prototyping. The lab is used for education, research, and collaboration, and features a wide range of machinery for sewing and other joining processes for knitted and woven materials, leather, and functional fabrics.
Your Responsibilities
- Teaching practical components in courses at undergraduate and advanced levels.
- Supporting students, teachers, and researchers in laboratory work involving pattern making, cutting, sewing, joining, fit, and product development.
- Operating, setting up, and maintaining industrial sewing machines and special equipment, as well as performing basic troubleshooting.
- Contributing to the development of laboratory processes and workflows.
- Contributing to the development of laboratory-based teaching moments and teaching materials.
- Ensuring that laboratory work adheres to updated routines in accordance with current health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Participating in research and development projects in the field, for example by developing new structures, using new materials, and producing suitable products.
- Being responsible for inventory and ordering of materials within the laboratory's operations.
- Collaborating with colleagues, the lab manager, researchers, and external partners to develop the laboratory.
Your Qualifications
The following qualifications are required for the position:
- Completed upper secondary vocational education, university college education, or other equivalent completed education in garment technology, tailoring, sewing, or pattern making.
- Several years of documented experience in industrial sewing and sample or prototype production.
- Strong practical knowledge in pattern making, cutting, fit, and garment technology production.
- Experience with industrial sewing machines, machine setup, daily maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Pedagogical and service-oriented ability to instruct users with varying levels of prior knowledge.
- Good organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and strong teamwork abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in Swedish, and the ability to communicate in English in a work context.
Merits:
- Journeyman certificate in tailoring or equivalent documented professional competence.
- Experience with digital pattern making, grading, nesting, or production documentation.
- Experience with fit and quality work, as well as product development in garment manufacturing.
- Experience in mentoring, leadership, or practical supervision.
- Experience with advanced joining techniques, functional or protective clothing, or new textile materials.

Type of employment: Fixed-term contract until 2026-12-31 at the latest.
