Workplace and Conditions

The position is within Gävle Municipality's cooking kitchens for preschools. As a pool cook, you will cover for regular cooks at absence in one of Utbildning Gävle's preschools with cooking facilities, or alternatively at Hemlingborg and Fridhemsskolan where we have our own cooking. We have approximately 35 preschool kitchens and 2 schools, one of which includes care and housing services.

Some preschools are located a few miles outside central Gävle with limited bus connections. This means you cannot commute to work solely using Gävle's public transport, as bus schedules do not always align with the working hours.

Job Description

As a pool cook in Gävle Municipality, you play a vital role in providing children and students with nutritious and tasty meals every day. You will work at several preschools based on operational needs, offering a varied role where you can contribute your skills and passion for food in different kitchens and teams.

You will prepare meals from scratch, usually based on the regular cook's planning. You may also be responsible for menu planning and ordering supplies. At most preschools, the role is 100% cooking, though at a few locations, cleaning of areas outside the kitchen may also be required. You will prepare meals focusing on nutritional value, allergy-friendly options, and vegetarian diets, with an emphasis on sustainability regarding environment and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

• Has education equivalent to the high school restaurant program with a focus on cooking, minimum 1200 credits.
• Can read, understand, and communicate in Swedish to comprehend safety information, cleaning routines, instructions, safety regulations, product descriptions, etc.
• Has computer experience, as ordering and receiving goods is done digitally.

It is an advantage if you:

• Have knowledge and experience working with public meals, including planning, purchasing, and preparing meals from scratch. This includes nutritional content, allergy-friendly diets, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability.
• Hold a valid B-class driver's license.

As a final candidate in the recruitment process, you are required to provide an extract from the criminal record register for work in schools or preschools, and for work with the elderly or adults with disabilities.

Employment Terms

• Selection: Will begin during week 31.
• Type of Employment: Permanent position.
• Duration: Permanent, start date: 2026-09-01 or by agreement.
• Working Hours: According to schedule.
