Do you want to become part of our team focused on users and development? We are now looking for a librarian with a special interest in fiction and democratic issues!

The libraries on Gotland consist of ten public libraries spread across the island, with the Almedal Library as the main library. The unit consists of 30 engaged employees in the roles of librarians, library assistants, and library administrators. The unit is led by a unit manager and an assistant unit manager. We have close cooperation with the unit for regional library development.

The libraries on Gotland work in accordance with the Library Act for the development of a democratic society by contributing to knowledge dissemination and free formation of opinion. We do this by promoting reading and access to literature, offering a broad program activity, and being a meeting place for everyone. With a new library plan for the period 2026-2029, the libraries' focus will include collegial learning and the development of the democratic mandate, as well as activities for priority groups in various forms of co-creation processes.

We offer a workplace where your competence is valued and where you get the opportunity to influence and develop the library's operations and service in a changing operation where citizens' needs, democracy, and societal resilience are in focus.

The libraries on Gotland are now looking for a librarian with the main placement at the Almedal Library in Visby.

Your Responsibilities

Your task will be to drive the work on reading promotion for adults, multilingualism, and national minorities together with others, through, among other things, outreach work. It is also about promoting reading pleasure and activating perceptions of the possibilities of reading through, for example, easy-to-read literature, book circles, and language cafes.

The work involves arranging and implementing events and leading author talks and discussions on issues around democracy, free formation of opinion, adult education, sustainability, and preparedness. At the libraries on Gotland, it is natural that we create our operations and the services we offer together with our users.

The position includes routine tasks such as systematic collection work, circulation work, and, of course, the very important daily meeting with visitors in the library room and at the information desk.

The position includes weekend and evening shifts.

Who are you?

You who apply have a bachelor's or master's degree in library or information science. It is a requirement that you have a B driving license.

We consider it meritorious if you have training in leading discussions. It is also meritorious if you have experience of working in libraries as well as experience of working with the service design model (UX).

We are looking for you who have a special interest in literature and a strong commitment to the library's important democratic mandate.

As a person, you are proactive and self-reliant. You are development-oriented, open to change, and flexible with great awareness of and focus on the goals of the work. You have very good cooperation skills and work relationship-building. You communicate clearly and pedagogically and enjoy providing high-quality service. You are creative and see problem-solving as an exciting challenge. You handle work peaks and stressful situations calmly and structured.
