RESPONSIBILITIES

Mälardalen University is seeking a Unit Manager for the Unit for Guidance, Support, and Health within the Department of Student and Learning Support. The department is led by a Department Head who, together with the Unit Manager, will form the leadership team for the department. The unit is newly established and will be responsible for the areas of targeted pedagogical support, student health, and study guidance.

The Unit Manager's overarching mission is to:

  • Lead, develop, and monitor the unit's areas of responsibility: targeted pedagogical support, student health, and study guidance.
  • Ensure that work processes and methods are designed with a clear recipient perspective for students, faculties, and departments.
  • Ensure that services and assignments are easy to understand and that digitalization is used to streamline and improve operations.
  • Create systematic dialogue with faculties and departments within the unit's areas of responsibility.

The role of Unit Manager entails full employer responsibility for the unit's operations and personnel within the operational area, as well as responsibility for the unit's finances. This includes budgeting revenues and monitoring costs, managing the unit's employees, and ensuring a good working environment within the unit.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience as a manager within the university and college sector or a related area deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Operational and strategic experience from the unit's areas of responsibility.
  • Good knowledge and confidence in public administration and regulations for higher education.
  • A good understanding of and knowledge about educational and research activities and student needs.

You lead and motivate employees in a collaborative spirit and contribute to developing a positive and safe working environment and culture within the unit and department. You actively support employee development and clear accountability through learning-based work methods and dialogue-based follow-ups.

You understand contexts and different perspectives and have the ability to create engagement and accountability for both the operation as a whole and the significance of individual parts. You express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English and have a good ability to design student-centered work methods.

ASSETS

  • Experience and competence regarding change management, digitalization, and quality work.
  • Experience of being part of a management group.
  • A network within the higher education sector (UH-sector).
  • Leadership training.
