The Urban Environment Administration has a comprehensive responsibility for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility.
We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work in the administration.
The Urban Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg City. Together, we work to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and strive to make the city sustainable from all perspectives.
Job Responsibilities
Do you want to be part of our development journey? In 2026, we will implement a new travel management system, which is why we are strengthening our resources across the entire Service Travel operational area. We are now looking for three traffic controllers for the traffic management unit.
As a traffic controller, you work to prevent and minimize upcoming traffic-related problems. You assist drivers with information and problem-solving during ongoing assignments, supervise the ongoing traffic operations, and decide and implement traffic-corrective measures when necessary. The responsibilities of the traffic controller include updating system information and ensuring that delay information is communicated to travelers in the event of delayed vehicles. You also handle booking service trips by phone for various traveler groups and participate in follow-up activities related to existing traffic agreements. Other tasks may be added.
You will belong to the Mobility and Service Travel department, the traffic management unit, which consists of 17 traffic controllers and a traffic developer, many of whom have worked together for a long time. We have a balanced gender distribution and a good age mix. We work to help our travelers reach the right place at the right time by supporting the drivers in their professional practice. We work preventively to ensure that delays do not occur as much as possible.
We have ongoing contacts with drivers and traffic companies and have the entire city's traffic situation in real-time as our working field, which means that we also work evenings, weekends, and holidays with additional pay.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a high school education. We consider it an advantage if you have experience working in a fast-paced environment, where you understand the importance of working strategically during quieter times in preparation for the next peak traffic. You will initially need to learn the current travel management system before transitioning to the new one shortly. To manage this, you must be a quick learner when it comes to data systems.
You need to have a good pedagogical ability to convey map and road information and maintain a professional empathetic approach even in stressful situations. To work as a traffic controller, good collaboration skills are required since large parts of the job require cooperation and communication with other colleagues to solve current problems. We wish that you are well acquainted with the geography of Gothenburg and the surrounding region. Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written, is required for the position.
The job requires responsibility and attention to detail. The traffic controller is the contact for Service Travels with the drivers in the daily ongoing work and also acts as a link between drivers and travelers. The traffic management assignment is about providing good service and a pleasant encounter while fulfilling efficiency and cost awareness.

1 project employment for about 1 year.
For this position, we have a salary range of 30,000 - 37,800 SEK based on each candidate's work experience and competencies.

Our workplace at Köpmansgatan 20 is currently being renovated, where all urban development administrations will gather. The new premises are expected to be completed in 2026 – until then, we are located at Postgatan 10.
