Curator at Åland Museum

The main task of the curator is to manage and mediate Åland Museum's image and sound archive. As a curator, you will:

• be responsible for Åland Museum's image and sound archive
• assist customers with image orders
• plan and carry out ethnological research and documentation assignments
• participate in public mediation activities through exhibition work, publications, and events

Brief description of the company:

The overall management and operational area of the Education and Culture Department includes education, culture, archives, libraries, youth, and sports issues, as well as museum and cultural heritage matters. Åland Museum's activities include exhibitions and mediation, responsibility and management of collections, customer service, and museum educational work at government-owned museums and attractions. Åland Museum also handles the execution of commissioned work within its operational areas.

The position of Curator is placed in the Åland Cultural Historical Museum unit, which conducts exhibition activities and manages the cultural historical collections.

Eligibility requirements:

The eligibility requirement is a degree from a university or an equivalent higher education institution recognized by the national education authority, corresponding to four years of full-time studies with a suitable focus.

Desirable qualifications:

Good knowledge of handling objects such as images, films, and audio tapes, as well as ethnological objects, is desirable, as is experience with databases, audiovisual technology, and mediation and exhibition work. Documented experience in museum collection management is also desirable.

We are looking for someone who is outgoing and interested in people and the local community. You need to be proactive, interested in mediation work, organized, and structured. The work requires that you can prioritize tasks and complete them within given time frames. When assessing applicants, great importance will be placed on self-leadership, planning, and collaboration skills.

A driver's license is a requirement.
