Security Officer at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
We are looking for a security officer who, with knowledge and enthusiasm, wants to participate in the development of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's work in security and preparedness. With us, you will work alongside dedicated colleagues and help drive the development towards a resilient and sustainable society. Currently, we are focusing on sewage and waste management, but other areas within the agency's responsibilities may also be relevant for total defense.
The security unit currently consists of seven employees and has the task of driving, developing, and coordinating the agency's security and preparedness work. The unit has overall responsibility for preparedness and security within the agency and works closely with other units to strengthen the agency's preparedness and security efforts, as well as being responsible for issues related to the agency's security protection, physical security, personnel security, operational protection, crisis preparedness, and civil defense.
We are looking for a security officer who wants to contribute to developing the agency's internal work in security and preparedness, as well as developing us as a preparedness authority. We are currently in an exciting development phase given our new role as a preparedness authority and the general security situation, and we are looking for someone motivated to influence and drive change and development work.
Your Responsibilities
In your role as a security officer, you will have a central role in the important work of developing the agency's capabilities in security. Your mission is to actively work towards building a systematic approach to security issues, primarily physical security, operational protection, personnel security, and travel security. You will also actively participate in the agency's work with security protection.
You will work practically to support the agency's various operations with your expertise and also participate in assessing risks and prioritizing further work based on this. You will develop methods and approaches to increase understanding and strengthen internal capabilities, as well as participate in external collaboration. At training sessions, exercises, and workshops, you will actively contribute to both planning and implementation. You will also be involved in the unit's work on crisis preparedness and civil defense.
As the agency's security and preparedness work is in a development phase, you must enjoy switching between strategic and operational tasks. A large part of the work occurs in close collaboration with other parties, both internally and externally, which requires you to easily create lasting relationships and maintain a proactive dialogue to support these operations in finding safe and effective solutions. In your role, there are good opportunities for further professional development in the field. You contribute to the unit's overall mission and thus have the opportunity to develop in other issues within the preparedness and security area.
Your Qualifications
Requirements for Employment
- relevant higher education or other higher education combined with several years of experience in security work deemed equivalent by the agency,
- documented experience of having previously worked with security issues, and
- experience in formulating high-quality written materials.
Desirable Qualifications
- experience working with issues related to physical security, operational protection, personnel security, and travel security.
- training in or experience with analyses, planning, and capability-enhancing measures within security protection, e.g., security protection analyses and position analyses,

- several years of work experience from strategic and operational work in public operations,
- experience in project management or a coordinating role,
- experience conducting training and workshops, preferably within the security and preparedness area, and
- good knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations within the security and preparedness area.
Personal Attributes
As a person, you have the ability to create good relationships and communicate smoothly both internally and externally. You are analytical and strategic and have the ability to see the big picture and find solutions that lead to improvement and development. You can drive work forward both independently and in collaboration with others. You are structured and have a flexibility that allows you to easily switch between strategic and operational work. We value a good and unpretentious collaboration where we are attentive, support each other, and share knowledge. We place great importance on personal suitability and the ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
