Tailor for the Costume Atelier at the Royal Opera

Do you want to contribute to an exciting time of change at the Royal Opera and help create world-class performing arts? The Royal Opera is now seeking a tailor for the costume atelier, women's tailoring.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a tailor at the Opera, you will work on both the production of new costumes for the repertoire as well as alterations and maintenance of existing costumes. You will be involved in the creation and completion of costumes and will closely collaborate with cutters and other colleagues in the atelier. The work involves making women's costumes, and as much as possible, we also work across the boundaries between women's and men's tailoring. The costume unit is part of the Technical section at the Royal Opera. Together, we dress our artists on stage for both opera and ballet performances, and we produce approximately 1000 costumes each year.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCE PROFILE

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Training as a tailor with several years of experience working in tailoring.
  • Experience in theatrical tailoring is an advantage.
  • Excellent language skills in Swedish and English, and basic computer skills, especially in Office.
  • We are facing significant changes due to the relocation from the Opera House during a planned multi-year renovation, so adaptability and flexibility are required to succeed in this role.

As a person, you are meticulous, flexible, punctual, and loyal to your task. It is important that you can collaborate with others to complete tasks together and that you have the ability to work independently. To succeed in this role, you are communicative and solution-oriented. We place great importance on personal suitability, where you are expected to contribute to a safe and pleasant working environment, in line with the Royal Opera's leadership and employee philosophy.

EMPLOYMENT

The employment is permanent. Start date according to agreement. Working hours are daytime, 40 hours/week. For more information about the position, please contact Jeanette Stener, Head of Costume and Makeup Atelier. Union contacts are Johanna Ernst and Ida Andersson from the Scen and Film Union. You can reach them via email at firstname.lastname@operan.se.

You apply by attaching your CV. Welcome with your application by March 31.
