Do you want to contribute during an exciting time of change at the Royal Opera?

The Royal Opera is now seeking a tailor for a fixed-term position in the costume workshop.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a tailor at the Opera, you will work on both the creation of new costumes for the repertoire as well as alterations and maintenance of existing costumes. The position involves close collaboration with cutters and other colleagues in the workshop. The work includes the production of men's and women's costumes, primarily focusing on one or the other. Regardless, the work may involve both men's and women's tailoring, as we work across boundaries as much as possible.

The Mask and Costume Department is part of the Technical section at the Royal Opera and consists of a costume workshop, costume service, costume technology, dyeing/patina, and mask & wig workshop. Together, we dress our artists on stage for both opera and ballet performances, producing approximately 1000 costumes each year.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCE PROFILE

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Education as a tailor with several years of experience working in tailoring.
  • Excellent language skills in Swedish and English, and basic computer skills, particularly in Office.
  • We are facing significant changes due to the relocation from the Opera House during a planned multi-year renovation, so adaptability and flexibility are required to succeed in this role.

As a person, you are meticulous, flexible, punctual, and loyal to your task. It is important that you can collaborate with others to complete tasks together and also have the ability to work independently. To succeed in the role, you are communicative and solution-oriented. You are expected to contribute to a safe and pleasant working environment, in line with the Royal Opera's leadership and employee philosophy.

EMPLOYMENT

The employment is temporary and a substitute for a colleague, dependent on their absence. Start date according to agreement. Working hours are daytime, 40 hours/week. For more information about the position, please contact Jeanette Stener, Head of the Mask and Costume Workshop. Union contact persons are Johanna Ernst and Ida Andersson from the Union for Stage and Film. You can reach them by email at firstname.lastname@operan.se

You apply by attaching your CV. Welcome with your application by March 24.
