Investigator in Electrical Power at the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority

Do you want to work with reactor safety for new and existing nuclear power and contribute to developing the authority's knowledge and ability to handle current safety issues? Join us in creating a radiation-safe society!

We are looking for committed investigators in electrical power, where you, together with other specialists, will be responsible for knowledge development, the authority's direction, and positions.

The Department of Standardization and Knowledge Development plays a central role in driving the authority's policy, regulation, and knowledge development.

In the Systems Engineering unit, we are responsible for developing knowledge and providing the basis for the authority's positions in the development of legislation, policies, strategies, and other regulatory instruments within the unit's areas of responsibility. The unit is also responsible for international work within its areas of responsibility, including the development of international standardization. Employees in the unit also serve as a competence support within their areas of responsibility towards the authority's other operations.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • construction principles of nuclear reactors and other nuclear technology facilities at the facility and functional level
  • probabilistic safety analyses (PSA) and basis for risk-informed decision-making
  • analyses of nuclear reactors and other nuclear facilities regarding internal and external events
  • monitoring and evaluation of relevant foreign radiation safety incidents at nuclear power plants and international reporting of relevant Swedish radiation safety incidents.

We offer you a job where you will investigate technical issues regarding new and existing nuclear power, follow developments in systems engineering and facility safety both nationally and internationally. You will have the opportunity to initiate and follow up research projects and authority-supporting projects and contribute to developing construction requirements for new nuclear power. You will develop in a knowledge-intensive environment in collaboration with engaged colleagues with deep expertise in various subject areas, and you will have good opportunities to influence the direction of the work.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • an engineering degree or other education that the authority deems relevant for the position
  • current work experience in the design of nuclear power plant electrical systems, including the establishment of deep defense and safety functions
  • knowledge of electromagnetic disturbances and transients and their impact on electrical systems
  • current experience in safety analyses and/or design work within nuclear reactors
  • current experience in investigative or review work
  • experience in documenting and communicating results
  • good ability to communicate in speech and writing in Swedish and English.

It is advantageous if you have good process knowledge of nuclear reactors, as well as experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • uninterrupted power supply and battery technology
  • functional separation and selectivity in electrical systems
  • diesel generators
  • safety principles and safety philosophy within the nuclear power area or within other operations with high safety requirements
  • Swedish Radiation Safety Authority's regulations on construction or evaluation and reporting of radiation safety for nuclear reactors
  • operation at nuclear reactors.

Personal characteristics

To function well in the role of investigator, you need to have the ability to see things from a holistic perspective. Since you will have both internal and external contacts, you need to have good collaboration skills. You also need to be self-driven, able to take responsibility for driving the work forward, and able to draw relevant conclusions from available information. Furthermore, you need to have a good ability to document and communicate the results of completed work clearly and pedagogically. Finally, you need to have high integrity.

We expect you to have a high safety awareness and that you can work according to both Our Values - Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se) and the State Values (forvaltningskultur.se).
