Art Curator at the Cultural Department

The Cultural Department supports the Cultural and Education Board in matters related to cultural policy and grant giving, and has assignments that involve initiating, supporting, and leading development within the arts and culture sector.

We work based on Värmland's cultural plan and regional library plan. The department conducts regional cultural activities within visual arts, library services, reading and literature promotion, dance, film, and handicrafts.

Since the beginning of the year, the Art Unit has been part of the Cultural Department with the task of being responsible for artistic design of our public spaces. The department promotes increased cultural participation, prioritizes children and youth, and supports cultural creators' opportunities to work in their profession.

Your tasks

We are now looking for an art curator who, in close collaboration with the region's various operations, will work with artistic design and environmental design of Region Värmland's premises. Together with the rest of us in the department, you will work to increase opportunities for people in Värmland to see and experience art in various forms. Public art contributes to a stimulating environment for patients, relatives, staff, and other visitors.

You will contribute with your specific expertise in the field of art, artistic design, and environmental design. As an art curator, you will be responsible, together with the team, for ensuring that the art collection and its presentation are sustainable over time and maintain high quality in terms of materials and artistic expression.

The work involves carefully assembling collections based on the character, conditions, and needs of regional operations with care and professionalism. The work is operational and requires a humble attitude, collaboration skills, and decisiveness. The work is both practical and administrative, ranging from minor repairs of works in our framing workshop, mounting and hanging, to administrative documentation and registration in our art database in Faciliate, text production, and development of written procedures.

The work is physically demanding and involves heavy lifting and uncomfortable working positions, so good physical condition is a prerequisite. An important part of your job will be to develop and manage the art collection, which may shape and change the content of the position over time.

Your knowledge and skills

We want you to have:

• Academic education in art, design, architecture, or similar education/experience that the employer assesses as equivalent.
• Experience and knowledge in the field of art.
• Experience in handling and working with space and spatiality.
• Experience in monitoring the art field for art purchases.
• Good physical condition and the ability to handle heavy lifting and uncomfortable working positions.

You find it easy to collaborate and are used to working both independently and as part of a team. You have the ability to see the whole picture and take into account the larger perspective. Additionally, you can prioritize and organize work effectively, both in the short and long term. You communicate well in both speech and writing. A B driver's license and good driving experience are required as the work is spread throughout the region. Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience working in a politically governed organization and/or with public art.
