The Department of Pathology and Cytology at Sundsvall Hospital is a county operation within Region Västernorrland, primarily responsible for all histopathological and cytological diagnostics, as well as all mortuary and autopsy operations within the region. The department is responsible for the call system and administration of the gynecological cell sample control (GCK) within Region Västernorrland. Samples are sent to our laboratory, where they are prepared and stained for microscopic or digital examination. The results we provide are crucial for making the correct diagnosis, but they are also used to predict which treatment is best suited.

We are now looking for a biomedical analyst to join our team. Approximately 50 people work in the Department of Pathology and Cytology, including biomedical analysts, cytodiagnosticians, autopsy technicians, and doctors in good team collaboration. You will be employed in the Department of Pathology and Cytology, primarily located at the Histology Laboratory. You will be part of a team consisting of biomedical analysts and nursing assistants who together are responsible for the analysis process throughout.

The position is a full-time temporary position with a possibility of extension. Start date according to agreement, with placement in Sundsvall. Biomedical Analyst for the Department of Pathology and Cytology, Sundsvall

Job Responsibilities

We work with the entire process from sample registration to diagnostics. With us, you will work both independently, making your own decisions, while also working as part of a team. The work in pathology is broad and varied. At the histology lab, you will work with tissue samples. The tasks include embedding, cutting, sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry, specialized cutting, and scanning of slides to create digital images for diagnostics. The work is based on having a good understanding of your part in the overall process.

Typical tasks in a pathology laboratory include:

• Unpacking/registration of samples
• Assisting pathologists with cutting
• Embedding of tissue samples
• Manual and automated staining
• Scanning for digital diagnostics
• Fresh handling/biobanking

Additional Information

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who

• Is a licensed biomedical analyst or will be licensed shortly
• Has good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing

It is an advantage if you

• Have experience in pathology
• Have completed practical training in the pathology and cytology department
• Have had a pathology focus during your studies
