Job Advertisement: Nature Conservation Officer
The County Administrative Board's approximately 300 employees work as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are implemented in the region. We strive to be an authority free from discrimination and want to harness the qualities that diversity brings to our operations.
The Nature Conservation Unit is the largest of the County Administrative Board's seven units. Here, we work to preserve biological diversity, promote outdoor life, establish and manage nature reserves, maintain our mountain trails, manage our wildlife populations, address reindeer husbandry issues, and conduct supervision and issue permits. Our team consists of experts in these areas who are eager to share their knowledge.
We work with respect, professionalism, and openness for the county's residents – together for a sustainable future!
Description
One of the County Administrative Board's missions is to lead and coordinate regional work regarding nature conservation, biological diversity, outdoor life, wildlife and predator management, invasive alien species, and marine and freshwater environments based on the responsibilities of various stakeholders.
As a state actor, we aim to achieve the global goals of Agenda 2030, which includes ensuring a good balance between environmental, economic, and social sustainability aspects to achieve sustainable regional development and sustainable use of land-based ecosystems to prevent, restore, and rehabilitate depleted habitats and halt the loss of biological diversity.
The work with nature supervision and case management takes place in the Nature Case Group within the Nature Conservation Function, one of four functions within the Nature Conservation Unit. The Nature Case Group is responsible for permit, exemption, and notification cases related to Natura 2000, protected natural areas, shoreline protection, off-road driving, species protection, and biotope protection. This also includes reviewing municipal shoreline exemption applications and conducting internal dialogue and writing internal statements on matters of significance for community planning, tourism, and rural development. Supervision and information to operators as well as guidance to municipalities are other important tasks. The workgroup currently consists of five people.
Responsibilities
You will primarily work with the processing of off-road driving permits. Other tasks may also be included based on your experience and skills.
Your work will involve recording and processing cases, communicating proposals for decisions with applicants, conducting consultations with reindeer herding communities, field visits, and registering cases in webGIS.
The daily work takes place within the workgroup. Regular collaboration occurs with colleagues in the Nature Conservation Unit and other units. The position requires some flexibility as we assist each other during peak workloads and vacancies.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a university degree in nature conservation, ecology, biology, or another education deemed equivalent by the employer. You should have at least three months of work experience in areas relevant to the role. Since the work involves travel, a valid driver's license (B) is required.
It is an advantage if you have experience in:
- case management according to the Off-Road Driving Act and Chapters 7-8 of the Environmental Code,
- writing authority decisions that are justified by legislation and goals within the nature conservation area,
- reviewing application and notification documents,
- assessing species and nature value inventories,
- practical experience with case management systems such as Platina and geographic information systems (webGIS, QGIS, ArcGIS).
As a person, you are receptive to others' opinions and knowledge, have good collaboration skills, are meticulous and structured, and demonstrate good judgment in your official duties and contacts with applicants. You are also goal- and results-oriented with a strong ability to make accurate assessments and formulate well-reasoned decisions. You have a good ability to plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively and take responsibility for your tasks within the framework of the authority's routines and deadlines.
Conditions
We offer you a fixed-term employment for 2025 with a possibility of extension.
We provide you with meaningful work with varied tasks. You will make a difference for our county and community. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means you will constantly have the opportunity to develop and learn new things across several policy areas.
As an employer, we focus on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.
In the case of a permanent position at the County Administrative Board, you will be placed in a crisis position at the authority. Depending on the position, it may involve service in a crisis management team and security classification. We usually start with a probationary period for permanent positions.
Information on how we handle your personal data can be found at www.lansstyrelsen.se/dataskydd (www.lansstyrelsen.se/dataskydd)
