The Adapted Primary School grades 1-6 is located at Stommenskolan in Kinna. It is a school in transformation as the student population grows. Here, you have the opportunity to influence, as we work extensively with participation and co-determination. The educators have close collaboration, and we all work towards our vision – a learning environment for all. The adapted primary school collaborates closely with the student health service and has access to supervision from psychologists, counselors, speech therapists, and special educators.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will work together with teachers and other student assistants supporting students with intellectual disabilities, often in combination with other functional variations. You need to be involved in the planning of the students' school day and after-school care, as well as have the ability to adapt teaching based on their needs and daily condition, all to ensure the students can develop to their fullest potential. Documentation using text and images is part of the assignment. The adapted primary school works with visual supports and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

You will accompany students in lessons, either in the classroom or elsewhere as needed, depending on the student's daily condition. You will support students throughout the school day during, for example, activity changes, breaks, and in the after-school care. An important part of your work is helping students create and maintain good relationships with other students.

Our students have diverse needs regarding both learning and care, which means you also need to be able to assist with, for example, hygiene and toilet visits. Occasional lifting may occur as we have students in wheelchairs. Swimming and bathing are an essential part of the adapted primary school's curriculum, and therefore, it is a requirement that you can swim and bathe with the students.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability. You should be secure and stable, able to handle stress constructively, and maintain a good mood towards students under pressure and during setbacks. You are considerate and easily empathize with others' situations, listening, understanding, and showing respect. You are also team-oriented, adapting yourself and finding win-win solutions through a goal-oriented focus on the common objective, always for the student's best interest.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing Swedish - Critical / Mandatory
  Students at the adapted primary school need clear communication and require help and support in all areas. An important part of your work is being able to receive information from parents, colleagues, and employers, as well as documenting the students' knowledge development.
• Swimming proficiency - Critical / Mandatory
  Students at the school have swimming/bathing every week. This is an important part of the education for our students.
• Documented pedagogical education or experience - Critical / Mandatory
  As a student assistant, you will conduct teaching for students individually and adapt the teaching to suit the student, even if the overall planning and responsibility lie with the educator. Therefore, pedagogical education/experience is important.
• Documented education in various functional variations and intellectual disabilities - Important / Desirable
  Long-term experience working with students with intellectual disabilities and other functional variations in a school environment is advantageous.
• Documented education in sign language/support - Important / Desirable
  Most students at the adapted primary school need alternative communication methods. If you also have training in Comunicator, this is advantageous.
