to apply for the job
In Upplands-Bro Municipality, we are approximately 2,000 employees dedicated to providing our residents and visitors with the best possible service and experience. Here, you help build a municipality where a holistic approach, engagement, and professionalism permeate the organization as we work together to fulfill our common societal mission.
The Youth Department is tasked with creating safe, inclusive, and developmental environments where young people in the municipality have the opportunity to grow, influence, and participate on their own terms. The operations are built on the presence of adults, clear structures, and a relationship-building approach that strengthens young people's self-esteem, hope for the future, and sense of belonging.
As a Group Leader, you play a central role in leading and coordinating the daily work within the department. The role involves creating structure, clarity, and a common direction for the operations, as well as supporting employees in their tasks.
Job Description
The department is responsible for providing safe and developmental meeting places for young people in the municipality. Operations are conducted at three youth clubs: Bro Youth Club, Trappan, and Hagan, which serve as fixed and well-known meeting spots for teenagers. Here, open activities are offered with a focus on community, participation, and meaningful leisure time.
In addition to the fixed meeting places, mobile and outreach activities are also conducted through youth coaches. The work is relationship-building, preventive, and project-oriented, aiming to strengthen young people's influence, engagement, and participation – especially for those who do not seek out established activities themselves. Collaboration with schools, guardians, associations, and other societal actors is a central part of the mission.
The Group Leader role is a new function established as a result of an organizational change. Previously, the department had two supervisors, but is now transitioning to a consolidated Group Leader function. This change aims to create a more sustainable and cohesive organization where roles, responsibilities, and work processes are clearly defined. This creates better conditions for unified management, clear follow-up, and a consistent approach throughout the department.
Responsibilities:
- Operational leadership of the daily work within the youth club operations and outreach activities.
- Planning, coordination, and ongoing support for youth leaders, including scheduling, staffing, and practical management.
- Driving and developing methodological work in the operations based on assignments, target group needs, and current guidelines.
- Acting as a contact person in dialogue with schools, guardians, associations, and other partners.
- Ensuring that established routines and methods are followed and, together with the Department Manager, leading the continued development and quality work of the operations.
We are looking for you who:
- Have relevant post-secondary education in social, pedagogical, or behavioral fields.
- Have experience working in open youth activities and feel confident in interacting with the target group.
- Have experience in operational leadership and the ability to lead daily work, make decisions, and prioritize.
- Have strong organizational skills and can structure, coordinate, and ensure the quality of operations.
- Are a confident mentor who can provide support, guidance, and feedback to employees in their daily work.
- Have the ability to translate goals and assignments into practical work, follow guidelines, and drive a methodical and consistent approach.
In this recruitment, we place great emphasis on personal qualities. As a Group Leader, you need to be analytical and able to see the big picture, connections, and needs in the operations, while also having the ability to translate analysis into practical action. You are proactive and take responsibility for driving the work forward, even in situations where the frameworks are not always given.
The role requires you to be responsible and confident in your leadership, with the ability to make decisions, stand firm in daily life, and build trust with both employees and partners. At the same time, you need to be flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions in an operation characterized by variation and close presence to the target group.
