Welcome to us
Bandhagen School is now looking for 1 experienced and skilled teaching assistant for our special needs primary school. The position is a temporary assignment due to parental leave. The school has approximately 450 students and 110 staff members. We receive students from preschool class to grade 6 in regular primary school. We also receive students from grade 1 to grade 6 in special needs primary school, as well as preschool class students who are being prepared for special needs primary school. We have an after-school center for grades F–3 in regular primary school and F–6 in special needs primary school, and we offer an after-school club for grades 4–6 in regular primary school. Bandhagen School is located in an area in Bandhagen, which offers alternative working methods as we are close to nature areas and a park playground with animals. Our vision and goal is for the students to experience schooling characterized by safety, development, and success. Your role
As a teaching assistant at our special needs primary school, you support the students throughout the entire school day and perform various tasks in learning situations with the student under the direction and instructions of the teacher. The work involves being with the students throughout the day, both during school hours and during after-school care/childcare time. You will collaborate with teaching assistants, childcare workers, after-school teachers, teachers, the student health team, and other school staff. The work aims to enable students to develop, as far as possible and based on their own prerequisites, in accordance with the goals of the education.
Your competence and experience
We are looking for you who have good experience working as a teaching assistant in special needs primary school, teaching assistant education, childcare education, 3-year high school program for children and youth, preferably with an additional course for children with special needs (1.5 years) or other education/experience that the employer deems equivalent.
You should have experience working in special needs primary school, working with people with intellectual disabilities, and working in after-school centers. You should also have good knowledge of autism.
It is an advantage if you have education or experience working with alternative and augmentative communication, e.g., sign language as AAC, (TAKK), PECS, have knowledge and/or experience working with applied behavior analysis (ABA), and have knowledge and/or experience working with clarifying pedagogy.
We are looking for you who want and can build relationships with students, believe that every student reaches their full potential, and want to work to promote their independence. You are professional, have good judgment, and can set boundaries. You are empathetic and use a low-affective approach when interacting with students. The work presupposes that you have patience and can adapt your communication and attitude based on the situation. You are secure, trust-building, and understand the importance of being an adult role model. You can work independently and take initiative. You are good at collaborating with colleagues. In your interaction with students and guardians, you are clear and attentive to the students' needs. You have good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
