Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences

Description

We are looking for a licensed Biomedical Laboratory Scientist (BMLS) to expand our team. The position is located at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at the Biomedical Centre (BMC), Uppsala University, and is shared between the research group Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics and the Uppsala node of the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (http://cbcs.se/), which is a unit within Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab).

You will work in a laboratory environment with a focus on conducting and supporting cell-based experiments as part of the unit's and research group's activities. The role also includes practical and administrative tasks that are important for the smooth daily operation of the lab. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team and work in close collaboration with research staff with complementary expertise in cell biology, image analysis, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and computer science. The research group strives for a high degree of automation within laboratory activities. Handling of clinical samples occurs within the work, which is why a license as a biomedical laboratory scientist is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Routine cell culture and maintenance of cell cultures
  • Preparation and execution of cell-based experiments according to established protocols
  • Sample handling and quality assurance
  • Maintenance and minor servicing of laboratory instruments
  • Purchasing of consumables and reagents, as well as inventory management
  • Documentation and administrative tasks related to laboratory activities

Qualifications

  • Licence as a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist
  • At least 2 years of practical experience in cell culture and cell-based assays
  • Experience in using and maintaining laboratory instruments
  • Experience working with microplate formats
  • Detail-oriented, structured, and responsible
  • Service-oriented with good collaborative skills
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Merits

  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy or high-content imaging
  • Experience in laboratory administration and purchasing
  • Experience in laboratory automation

About the position

The position is permanent, with a probationary period possibly applicable. The position is full-time. Start date: 2026-09-01 or by agreement.
