School Physician for Student Health Services in Hedemora (20%)

Are you a physician looking to contribute to the health and development of children and young people? Hedemora Municipality is now seeking a School Physician who can combine medical expertise with a strategic and consultative approach within the student health services.

Job Responsibilities

As a School Physician, you work on behalf of the municipality within the medical component of the student health services (Student Health Services Medical Intervention - EMI) according to the Education Act. The assignment aims to support students' development towards educational goals through medical competence in preventive and health-promoting work.

Main responsibilities:

• Conduct medical assessments in individual student cases.
• Provide consultative support to school nurses, psychologists, counselors, and special education teachers.
• Participate in Student Health Teams (SHT) as needed.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary investigations prior to decisions regarding special support or placement in adapted school forms.
• Issue medical statements (e.g., prior to placement in adapted schools according to Chapter 7, Section 5 of the Education Act).
• Participate in establishing and developing routines within the EMI.
• Participate in quality work as well as follow-up and development of the operations.
• Contribute medical competence to work regarding mental health, school attendance, and lifestyle habits.
• Responsible for medical guidelines together with the medically responsible school nurse and the operations manager.

Work Methods:

• The work is performed independently but in close collaboration with the professions within student health services.
• The assignment is primarily consultative and strategic, with a limited number of direct patient contacts.
• Participation occurs during scheduled clinics, SHT meetings, and as needed.

Responsibility:

You ensure that the medical work is conducted in accordance with:

• The Education Act (2010:800)
• The Health and Medical Services Act (2017:30)
• The Patient Safety Act (2010:659)
• The Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400)

Qualifications

Formal requirements:

• Licensed physician.
• Specialist competence in child and adolescent medicine, general practice, or another relevant specialty.
• Experience working with children and young people.
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Valid driver's license (Category B).
• Applicants offered employment are required to submit an extract from the criminal record register.

Meritorious qualifications:

• Experience working as a School Physician within student health services.
• Experience working within public sector operations.
• Knowledge of education legislation and the mandate of student health services.
• Experience in interdisciplinary work.
• Experience with the medical record system Prorenata.

Competencies and skills:

• Good teamwork skills and ability to contribute in interdisciplinary teams.
• High integrity and good judgment.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize in a consultative assignment.
• Analytical skills and a holistic view of the student's situation.
• Good communication skills in meetings with students, guardians, and staff.
