Assistant Nurse for the Pediatric Emergency Department – Akademiska Barnsjukhuset

Small hearts need great care!

We are a small hospital within a large one, and it is precisely in this smallness that our greatness lies. Here, we house all the competence a sick child might need, along with good cooperation, respect, and care. We offer a truly excellent introduction for new employees and many interesting opportunities for development. There is also unexpectedly much joy in what is sometimes very difficult. We take care of the children and their families, and we take care of each other – because we know we do a much better job together!

Our Operations

In recent years, we at the Pediatric Emergency Department have worked hard to develop our operations to receive all our patient categories in the best possible way. We have a vision to further develop our working methods and therefore want to grow our strong team!

At the Pediatric Emergency Department, we receive and treat children and adolescents (aged 0–18) with acute medical, orthopedic, and surgical illnesses and injuries. Our operations are open 24/7, and the number of patients and the intensity of work vary from day to day. The Pediatric Emergency Department is part of the Acute Pediatric Care Section, which also includes the Pediatric Emergency Care Unit 95E and the Specialized Pediatrics Unit. All units are located in very close proximity to each other.

We who work within the Acute Pediatric Care Section are a wonderful group who truly passion for our work. Our multidisciplinary team always keeps the sick child and family at the center. We value a good cooperative climate and have an open-door policy in teamwork. Patient safety and professional handling are natural parts of our daily work, and we place great emphasis on daily, joint training sessions for the section's staff groups. We are diligent about joint reflection after shifts and feedback after difficult patient cases. Thanks to our different competencies and experiences, we develop and make each other even better in our work with our patients.

Your Role

As an Assistant Nurse here at the Pediatric Emergency Department, you work both independently with your own responsibility and in a team together with other assistant nurses, nurses, and doctors. The tasks are varied and include, along with the care of children and relatives, blood sampling and inhalations, among other things. We place great emphasis on patient flow and patient contact. The work offers great variety in terms of difficulty, content, and pace. Our patients arrive both on foot and by ambulance, and we often receive patients requiring immediate, acute handling in the emergency room. A day at the Pediatric Emergency Department consists of many meetings with our patients and their families. Since a patient's condition can change quickly, the work is both varied and challenging, and well-functioning teamwork is always focused on the patient's best interest.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are educated as an Assistant Nurse or Pediatric Specialist Assistant Nurse. Experience in pediatric care and/or experience working in an emergency department is highly meritorious.

Your Competence

You have a great interest in pediatric care and find emergency care exciting. You are secure and stable, both as a person and in your role as an Assistant Nurse. You are self-reliant, take responsibility for your tasks, and drive the work forward. You are flexible and adapt easily to new circumstances. You enjoy being challenged and are open to learning new things and taking on different tasks.

What We Offer

We offer a permanent position at 100% with the possibility of rotation to the Acute and Specialized Pediatrics Unit, 95E. A probationary period of 6 months may apply. The position may be filled on an ongoing basis.

There is a great opportunity to rotate between the Pediatric Emergency Department and the Pediatric Emergency Care Unit 95E if desired; this is seen as meritorious. We work according to the Akademiska Point Model, where we work day, evening, and night shifts. For more information about what this model entails, you are welcome to contact the recruiting manager.
