Skärholmen District Administration is one of Stockholm City's 11 district administrations, covering the districts of Bredäng, Sätra, Skärholmen, and Vårberg. More than 1,000 employees work here to serve our 38,000 residents. We offer a municipal service that we are proud of, and we have fantastic diversity. Bring your unique contribution!

Welcome to us!

The Preventive and Promoting Area is tasked with working on early interventions for children, young people, their guardians, and adults in risk situations. The area is part of the social services and includes both the Prevention Unit and Leisure and Playground activities.

The Prevention Unit consists of school social teams (SST), counselors at the youth clinic, parent counseling, field assistants, and crime prevention activities. The unit is led by a unit manager and two group leaders who work closely with the operations and provide support in daily work.

To meet a growing need and continue developing our early and preventive interventions, we are now expanding our operations. Therefore, we are looking for a field assistant who wants to contribute to our important work for children, young people, and families.

We offer

With us, you will have a meaningful and developmental assignment where you have the opportunity every day to make a difference for children and young people. You will become part of an area that works with early and preventive interventions, characterized by commitment, collaboration, and a strong desire to create good conditions for the upbringing of children and young people.

At our workplace, you work together with engaged colleagues and managers who have extensive knowledge of the district and the children and young people who live and spend time here. We are an area that welcomes new ideas and wants employees to drive development.

As an employee of Stockholm City, you have access to attractive benefits and good opportunities to combine work and private life. We offer, among other things, flexible hours, holiday swapping, fitness allowance, and occupational pension. Near the workplace, there are gyms and swimming pools, and you have the opportunity to buy annual passes to the city's swimming pools at a favorable price. Read more about our benefits here.

Your role

As a field assistant, you are an important adult in the daily lives of young people and part of society's early support. You will become part of an experienced and engaged field group where you work together and support each other in everyday life to create security and good conditions for children and young people.

The field group works with outreach and preventive interventions for young people aged 11–17. By building relationships and being close to young people, you contribute to strengthening protective factors and early detection of risky behaviors. The work aims to prevent young people from ending up in, for example, crime, substance abuse, mental illness, bullying, or other risky situations. You meet young people where they are, such as schools, youth centers, streets, squares, and other environments where young people spend time.

The assignment also includes planning and implementing preventive activities, mapping the young person's network, and contributing to the early detection of risk factors. As a field assistant, you have many contact points and collaborate with, among others, schools, leisure activities, guardians, police, associations, and other actors in the area.

You are offered scheduled working hours based on the needs of the operations. The work may also involve covering for absences or special events in the district with short notice. You always work together with one or more experienced colleagues. Working hours are scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.

Your qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a degree in social work or a behavioral science degree with a relevant focus, or education that the employer considers equivalent
  • experience in outreach work with young people or other social work directed at children and young people
  • good knowledge of youth issues as well as risk and protective factors, mental health, socially destructive behavior, drugs, and their harmful effects
  • good proficiency in spoken and written Swedish

It is meritorious if you have:

  • experience in authority exercise within child and youth services
  • experience working with children and young people in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas
  • training in or experience working with MI (Motivational Interviewing) and ABC Teen
  • knowledge of languages other than Swedish and English
  • a B driving license

As a field assistant, you represent the social services in meetings with children, young people, and their guardians. To thrive and succeed in the role, you need to be professional, confident, and relationship-building. You find it easy to connect with young people and feel comfortable working in different environments where children and young people spend time. You have the ability to create and maintain relationships with both young people and families as well as colleagues and collaboration partners. Since the role involves many contact points, you need to have good collaboration skills. We are looking for someone who is proactive, independent, and flexible. You take responsibility for your work, notice the needs of the young people, and work to ensure they receive the right support at the right time. You also actively contribute to the development of the operations by sharing experiences, ideas, and perspectives.
