Nurse for the Pediatric Emergency Department at Akademiska Hospital

We are Akademiska Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community with your colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

In recent years, we at the Pediatric Emergency Department have worked hard to develop our operations to accommodate all our patient categories in the best possible way. We have a vision to further develop our working methods, which is why we want to expand our strong team!

At the Pediatric Emergency Department, we receive and treat children and adolescents (ages 0–18) with acute medical, orthopedic, and surgical diseases and injuries. Our department is open 24/7, and the number of patients and the intensity of work vary from day to day. The Pediatric Emergency Department is part of the Acute Pediatric Care Section, which also includes the Pediatric Emergency Care Ward 95E and the Department of Specialized Pediatrics. All units are located in very close proximity to each other.

Your Role

As a nurse at our Pediatric Emergency Department, you will work in a team together with other nurses, assistant nurses, and doctors. The role involves standard tasks for a nurse in a pediatric emergency department and offers great variety in terms of difficulty, content, and pace. Our patients arrive both by foot and by ambulance, and we often receive patients requiring immediate, acute care in the emergency rooms. All patients are triaged and prioritized according to RETTS-P.

A workday at the Pediatric Emergency Department consists of many interactions with our patients and their families. Since patients' conditions can change rapidly, the work is both varied and challenging, requiring strong assessment and prioritization skills.

Your onboarding is structured and takes place at the Pediatric Emergency Department in close collaboration with experienced colleagues and our development leaders, who are experienced nurses. You will also have a deputy ward manager as your nearest supervisor. We value a good atmosphere and always helping each other out. We place high value on security and therefore continuously work with various forms of training. After each shift, we hold a joint reflection session. If interested, there is an opportunity in the role to rotate between the Pediatric Emergency Department and the Ward for Acute and Specialized Pediatrics, 95E.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. Specialist education in healthcare for children and adolescents, as well as previous experience in pediatric care or emergency care/emergency department, is highly meritorious.

Your Competencies

You have a strong interest in pediatric care and find emergency care exciting. You are confident in uncertain situations, stand up for your own opinions, have the courage to speak up, and can distinguish between matters and personal issues. You easily empathize with others' situations, listen, understand, and show consideration. You quickly find solutions to emerging problems. You are secure in your role as a nurse and have a desire to contribute to making our operations even better. Personal suitability is given great weight.

What We Offer

We offer a permanent full-time position with the possibility of rotation between the Pediatric Emergency Department and Ward 95E. Working hours are scheduled during days, evenings, and nights using a point system. The point system provides both reduced working hours and financial compensation. For information on what the model entails, you are welcome to contact the recruiting manager.

A certificate of conduct (police report) will be required prior to appointment.

Start date: By agreement. Probationary period of up to 6 months may apply.

At our hospital, you receive benefits that make a difference. Read about the benefits here: Region Uppsala Benefits (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/).

Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff to wartime duties based on the needs of the total defense. This means no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before a decision on employment, a check of the police report (certificate of conduct) is conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and adolescents, or involuntary care for substance abusers, areas covered by optional register extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks are not currently intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala's own channels, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and advertising sales.
