About the assignment

We are currently looking for an experienced System Developer/Data Engineer for an exciting and important assignment at Karolinska University Hospital.

The assignment involves finalizing and further developing Karolinska's Data Lake platform and research infrastructure. The platform is used to support the healthcare and research sectors' need for accessible, structured, and quality-assured data.

You will work on developing data pipelines, integrations, and data processing services in a complex and regulated environment where security, traceability, and quality are paramount.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will among other things:

• Develop and enhance metadata-driven ETL/ELT pipelines
• Work with Data Lake technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or similar
• Build and maintain integrations with databases and various source systems
• Work with handling, anonymization, and quality assurance of sensitive data
• Contribute to robust solutions through test-driven development, code reviews, and automation
• Work with monitoring, logging, and alerting for production environments
• Collaborate closely with developers, architects, product owners, and business representatives
• Take responsibility for technical solutions and quickly familiarize yourself with existing architecture and codebase

We are looking for someone who has

• Several years of experience as a System Developer, Data Engineer, or similar role
• Good experience with Python and SQL
• Experience with ETL/ELT, data pipelines, and data processing
• Experience with Data Lake environments and large-scale data processing
• Experience with APIs, integrations, and databases
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar container platforms
• Understanding of security, access control, logging, and handling of sensitive data
• Ability to work independently and take technical responsibility
• Good communication skills in Swedish and/or English

Preferred qualifications

It is an advantage if you have experience with any of the following:

• Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Trino
• Apache Spark
• OpenShift
• Clinical data, research data, or other sensitive personal data
• PII anonymization, audit logging, or secrets management
• Test and QA frameworks for data pipelines, such as pytest, dbt testing, or Robot Framework
• Work within the public sector, healthcare, research, or other regulated activities
• Cloud environments such as Azure or AWS
• DevOps, CI/CD, and automation
