About the role

Transport is necessary for goods and people to reach their destinations. On the Environmental Section, we work to reduce the negative environmental impact caused by shipping and air transport. In this role, you will work together with other competent colleagues at the agency, in dialogue with other authorities, and in contact with relevant parties internationally.

Your main tasks will involve issues regarding ship cargoes, such as dangerous goods in shipping, but duties may vary and also include other environmental issues. This may, for example, involve representing Sweden in meetings at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), HELCOM, or the EU.

Other issues within the section or department's area of responsibility may also become relevant. The position includes travel, both domestic and international.

Your responsibilities

  • Handle cases based on MARPOL, the IMDG Code, the IBC Code, and the IMSBC Code.
  • Participate in the work to develop regulations and instruments to reduce the environmental impact of shipping, including describing and analyzing the consequences of proposed regulations.
  • Collaborate internationally, within the EU, and cooperate with other Swedish authorities, as well as maintain dialogue with industry organizations.
  • Prepare background materials for and answer questions from the Government Offices (Regeringskansliet).
  • Answer questions from the public and other actors, and respond to consultations.
  • Support the Swedish Transport Agency's inspection personnel with expert knowledge.

Qualifications required

  • University education, e.g., as a ship officer, engineer with chemical competence, or other education we deem relevant.
  • Current work experience in environmental issues or another relevant area.
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing, both in Swedish and English.

Qualifications that are meritorious

  • Experience working on ships or other relevant experience in shipping.
  • Technical competence related to shipping regulations for cargoes, e.g., dangerous goods according to the IMDG Code.
  • Experience working in the public sector (authority).
  • Experience in regulatory interpretation or regulatory development.
  • Experience in working with investigations or other strategic work.
  • Experience in international negotiations, development work, or similar.

  • Good collaboration skills: You work well with others, relate to them in a listening and flexible manner, listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts constructively.

More information

The employment is permanent with placement in Norrköping, Stockholm/Kista, or Gothenburg.

Appointment according to agreement.

We normally apply a probationary period.

As an employee, there is an opportunity to work remotely up to three days a week. The need of the business and the nature of the tasks determine if and to what extent this is possible.

An employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security investigation with register check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted. For some of our tasks in the security class, Swedish citizenship is required.
