About the position

Being a newly graduated nurse is an exciting challenge, but it can also be associated with a sense of uncertainty. To create an individualized and secure introduction, we want to offer you the opportunity to shadow as a nursing assistant already during semester 6 of your nursing education. This gives you the chance to get to know the ward early on and build confidence.

After licensure, you will be employed as a nurse and will have an induction period of up to 6 months. During your introduction, as a nursing assistant and/or as a newly hired nurse, you will have check-ins, reflections, and training by a nurse with the aim of deepening your competence in surgical care and nursing to increase your confidence. We also give you the opportunity to visit other units that care for surgical patients (outpatient clinic, emergency department, operating room, post-op, and ICU). This is a step towards increasing your understanding of the whole picture.

About us

Wards 2B/C are a joint ward with one staff group, one ward manager, and one deputy ward manager. The ward is divided into three teams: Upper GI (ÖGI), Lower GI (NGI), and Surgical Emergency Care (KAVA). We apply pair care and staff each team with a pair, a nurse and a nursing assistant. There is also a resource person during the day and evening.

Between 07:00 and 15:30, there is a coordinating function (nursing assistant) who mainly receives all incoming phone calls, distributes incoming patient flow as inpatients are discharged and leave the ward. This function books all transports and has contact with the municipality, the operating room, the emergency department, and the bed coordinator to optimize patient flow.

Patients come to us from various places depending on the reason for admission, which can be planned or acute. Mostly they come from Post-op after surgery or the emergency department, but not infrequently from another hospital after treatment or from a nearby ward, as we cooperate regarding patient load. It also happens that the patient has had an outpatient visit and is then admitted to the ward.

Currently, there are 21–28 care beds, and the hope is to soon open more as there is a need. The care load is assessed continuously, and the care team is strengthened as needed.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are studying to become a nurse in semester 6 or are a newly graduated nurse.
