We are looking for a mother tongue teacher in German!

Employment Type

Fixed-term position, part-time 10%. Start date 2026-08-17 to 2026-12-31.

Job Responsibilities

The role of a mother tongue teacher is a mobile position driven by student enrollment. It requires the teacher to travel to various schools within the municipality – both central schools and those in the outer areas – to meet with students. The role may include the following tasks: Mother tongue instruction, study guidance, remote teaching, remote guidance, and support for the Reception Unit 'Hej Umeå' as a language supporter.

Mother Tongue Instruction

Instruction is conducted with students in groups or individually within the municipality's school units, from preschool class to grade 9. Instruction takes place outside the student's regular schedule in the afternoons. Students receive in-person instruction at their home school from preschool class up to grade 3. From grade 4, it may mean that the student receives instruction at another school. We offer a bus pass for travel between schools. Remote teaching may be included in the role for schools in the outer areas for students from grade 2. Your work is highly independent, and as a mother tongue teacher, it includes planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation of the instruction you conduct based on the Swedish national curriculum.

Study Guidance

Study guidance involves supporting students in grades 1–9 as well as those in the Language Introduction program at the upper secondary school. Study guidance can take place before, during, or after the student's regular lessons.

You will collaborate closely with the student's mentor and subject teachers who plan and conduct the lessons, while you provide support in the mother tongue to help the student achieve knowledge in various school subjects. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances.

You will also provide support in the reception of newly arrived children and students, which includes, among other things, information meetings, orientation support, direct support, and mapping of newly arrived students' knowledge.

Qualifications

You have German as your mother tongue, have documented language skills in this, Swedish B/Swedish 2, and demonstrate very good digital skills. You have teacher training, Swedish or foreign, or other pedagogical experience. Having documented knowledge in multiple languages or the ability to speak different German dialects is an advantage. Bus connections to the workplace are difficult, so having a driver's license and access to a car is helpful.

You are creative, independent, flexible, and stress-resistant. You are curious and eager to develop and to foster development in others. As a person, you easily build relationships with both staff and children and guardians. You must have good collaboration skills, be a good listener, and be able to communicate and handle different situations constructively. You take responsibility for your tasks and are accommodating in your interactions. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We would appreciate it if you attached a cover letter and CV written in Swedish. If you have a teaching license, please include it.

In accordance with the Act on Suitability Checks, an extract from the police criminal record must be presented upon employment.

We look forward to receiving your application!
