About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.

Job Description

As a Probation Officer, you are responsible for clients released on parole as well as clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. The Probation Service is also responsible for intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, so-called ankle monitors, and community service. The work within the Probation Service consists largely of investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and drawing up plans for enforcement. You also work with leading treatment programs for probation clients.

As a Probation Officer, you actively participate in influence work directed towards clients, including through structured conversations based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparations for clients admitted to prison. The duties also include conducting personal investigations, providing opinions to the court, and proposing appropriate sanctions.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-insight. You have a good understanding of how humans acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages according to the recipient's conditions. In your professional practice, you must have good judgment and integrity. As a Probation Officer, you need to have good collaboration skills and be able to communicate clearly. You must also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

We are looking for someone who has:

• An academic degree (at least bachelor's level), preferably in behavioral science, law, social work, or social sciences, or alternatively another academic education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish
• Category B driver's license

The following are also meritorious:

• Well-regarded work experience within the penal system, social care, psychiatry, or care and assistance work
• Relevant language skills
• Experience working as a Probation Officer
• Experience with investigative work
• Experience with enforcement planning
• Experience working with the target group of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
• Experience with documentation and case processing
