The Competence Centre for Multilingualism works to ensure that students receive instruction in their mother tongue as well as study guidance in their strongest language. Today, 38 languages are represented within the operations. We work with both municipal authorities and private entities.

We are looking for a mother tongue teacher in Kirundi/Kinyarwanda!

Employment Type

Special fixed-term employment, part-time 25%. The scope may change. The position is time-limited from August 17, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Responsibilities

The work as a mother tongue teacher is a mobile position driven by student enrollment. It requires the teacher to travel to various schools within the municipality – both central and in outer areas – to meet with students. The role may include the following tasks: mother tongue instruction, study guidance, remote teaching, remote guidance, and support to the Reception Unit 'Hej Umeå' as a language supporter.

Study Guidance

Study guidance involves working with students in grades 1–9 as well as those on the Language Introduction program in upper secondary school. Study guidance can take place before, during, or after the student's regular class hours.

You will collaborate closely with the student's mentor and subject teachers who plan and conduct the lessons, while you provide support in the mother tongue to help the student achieve knowledge in various school subjects. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions.

You will also serve as a support in the reception of newly arrived children and students, which includes, among other things, information meetings, orientation support, direct support, and mapping of newly arrived students' skills.

Qualifications

You have Kirundi/Kinyarwanda as your mother tongue and have documented language skills in this language. You must have knowledge of Swedish (Swedish B/Swedish 2) and demonstrate very good digital competence. You have a teacher education (Swedish or foreign) or other pedagogical experience. Having documented knowledge of multiple languages is an advantage.

You are creative, independent, flexible, and stress-resistant. You are curious and eager to develop and contribute to development. As a person, you easily build relationships with both staff and children as well as guardians. You have good collaboration skills, are a good listener, and can communicate and handle different situations in a constructive manner. You take responsibility for your tasks and are accommodating in your interactions. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
