The Competence Centre for Multilingualism works to ensure that students have the opportunity for mother-tongue instruction and study guidance in the language they master best. Currently, 38 different languages are represented within our operations. We collaborate with both municipal and independent school authorities, from preschool class through to upper secondary school.

Students who have at least one guardian with a mother tongue other than Swedish are given the opportunity to study their language as a separate school subject. Through mother-tongue instruction, students strengthen their multilingualism, develop their identity, and build pride in their language and background.

We are now looking for a mother-tongue teacher in Turkish!

Employment Information

Temporary position, part-time 45%, scope may change. Start date 2026-08-10 to 2027-02-28.

Your Responsibilities

The role of a mother-tongue teacher is a flexible and varied position where the student base dictates planning. You will visit various schools throughout the municipality – both in central areas and in outlying districts – to meet students in their school environment.

The role may include the following tasks:

  • Mother-tongue instruction
  • Study guidance in the mother tongue
  • Distance teaching and distance guidance
  • Language support measures in collaboration with the Reception Unit Hej Umeå

Mother-tongue instruction takes place in groups or individually within the municipality's schools, from preschool class to grade 9, primarily on afternoons outside the regular timetable. Students in grades F–3 receive on-site instruction at their home school, while students from grade 4 may receive instruction at another school unit. Bus passes are offered if travel between schools is necessary. Distance teaching may occur for students in outlying areas from grade 2. The work is independent and includes planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation according to the Swedish curriculum.

Study Guidance

Study guidance involves supporting students in grades 1–9 as well as those in the Language Introduction program in upper secondary school. Guidance can take place before, during, or after lesson hours. You will collaborate closely with mentors and subject teachers, who are responsible for planning, while you provide support in the mother tongue to strengthen the student's knowledge development.

This may include support for the Hej Umeå Reception Unit during the reception of newly arrived students, for example through information meetings and mapping assessments.

About You

We are looking for someone who is creative, self-reliant, and flexible, and who thrives in a dynamic work environment. You are curious and have a strong desire to both contribute to development and develop yourself. As a person, you easily build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. Furthermore, you have good collaboration skills, are receptive, and can communicate and handle different situations in a constructive and solution-oriented manner. You take responsibility for your tasks and treat others in a accommodating and respectful way. We place great emphasis on your personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Turkish as a mother tongue, along with documented proficiency in it
  • Passed Swedish B/Swedish 2
  • Good digital skills
  • Teacher education, Swedish or foreign – or other pedagogical experience
  • Valid extract from the criminal record register, in accordance with the Act on Suitability Control

Merits

  • Knowledge of additional languages

Please attach a CV and, if applicable, a personal letter written in Swedish, as well as any teacher certification.

Together we contribute to the students' language development; we look forward to receiving your application!
