Do you want to develop within surgery at a clinic with strong research ties, a good educational environment, and engaged colleagues? We are now looking for a temporary resident doctor for the Surgery Clinic in Västerås – a workplace where development, quality, and collaboration are in focus.

The position suits you who want to gain broad surgical experience and develop in a stimulating clinical environment. For the right person, the position can also provide an opportunity to strengthen your CV in preparation for a potential future specialist training (ST) position within surgery.

Responsibilities

The role includes on-call duties, outpatient clinic work, ward work, and surgical activities. You will become part of a learning organization where you work closely with experienced colleagues and have good opportunities to develop in your professional role.

About the workplace

The Surgery Clinic at Västmanland Hospital operates within upper GI, lower GI, as well as breast, plastic, and endocrine surgery. The clinic has approximately 30 specialists and 11 resident doctors (ST-läkare), along with a strong tradition of education and supervision.

We consistently receive very positive feedback regarding our collegial atmosphere and educational environment. More than half of our specialists have defended their doctoral theses, and extensive research projects are conducted in collaboration with national and international research environments. For those interested in research, there are excellent opportunities to combine clinical work with academic development.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have completed medical education and obtained a medical degree.

Previous experience from surgical activities, inpatient care, or the medical record system Cosmic is meritorious. We also appreciate if you have an interest in research as well as development and improvement work.

You are a confident, responsible, and engaged person who thrives in collaboration with other professions. You have a respectful and professional attitude towards patients, relatives, and colleagues. You have good analytical skills, can handle complex information, and make well-founded decisions in daily work.

Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, is required for the position.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Employment terms

Temporary position from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, full-time
