Workplace Description

The Ovarian Cancer Research Group is located at Medicon Village, together with other groups within the Lund University Cancer Centre, and is organizationally part of the Department of Oncology at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences in Lund. The group's research focuses on improving the cellular and molecular understanding of breast and ovarian cancer, with the goal of translating research findings into clinical utility, such as early diagnostics and biomarkers.

The research group is interdisciplinary, with expertise in molecular biology, medicine, and bioinformatics, and works closely with the clinic. Collaborations take place both nationally and internationally, and the environment is characterized by openness, creativity, and knowledge exchange.

We are now looking for a Laboratory Engineer for a one-year employment, with a desired start date of September 1, 2026.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The work involves handling and extraction from patient samples, data registration and documentation, as well as genomic and transcriptomic analyses (sequencing). Analysis of sequencing data may also be included in the tasks. The goal is to identify new molecular biomarkers and potential treatment targets for patients with breast and ovarian cancer.

Examples of tasks include:

  • Extraction and quality control of DNA/RNA/protein from human tissue (fresh and fixed).
  • Sample handling and registration of samples.
  • Sample preparation for DNA/RNA sequencing, NGS (Illumina/Nanopore).
  • Data analysis: statistics, survival analysis, bioinformatics, and machine learning.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Education as a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Master's degree in bioinformatics or systems biology.
  • Documented molecular biological experience, including PCR and NGS sequencing.
  • Experience and knowledge of genetic analyses.
  • Good ability to work with data management and analysis, including statistics, survival analyses, and multivariate analyses.

As a person, we see that you are meticulous, have a high degree of independence in your work, and possess good communication skills.

Merits for the position include:

  • Experience with Sanger sequencing/deep sequencing.
  • Experience with interpretation of constitutional variants.
  • Experience with clinical genetics, immunology, statistics, bioinformatics.
  • Knowledge of programming in R/RStudio.

Other Information

The employment is a fixed-term appointment (SÄVA) for 12 months. The desired start date is September 1, 2026, or as agreed.
