Social Worker in Preschool

A new and exciting opportunity has opened up in Ale Municipality! We are looking for someone who wants to work in preschools with a social focus on early interventions. Research shows that early interventions to promote psychosocial health in preschool can lead to improved school results and reduce social vulnerability in the long run.

In light of the new Social Services Act, Ale Municipality is now expanding its preventive work. As part of this, the Social Services and the Education Administration are jointly introducing the new position of Social Worker in Preschool. The work aims to strengthen the conditions for children's development and to identify and meet needs at an early stage.

The preschool and the social services are to contribute to and coordinate support measures to improve children's current and future living conditions, based on their respective assignments and competencies. The actors shall collaborate closely, ensure efficient coordination of measures, and complement each other in preventive work.

About the Workplace

We are responsible for open care within individual and family services for children and young people aged 0–21 and their families – both assessed support measures and service measures. Our employees are deeply committed to developing the operations to meet the needs of citizens, in line with the new Social Services Act. We also run two family centers and the MiniMaria clinic in collaboration with the region. The unit also has a well-established school social platform, which is now being developed further into school social teams. Together with the Children and Family Unit, we work to ensure that children and young people can remain in their original families and, if necessary, receive qualified support and treatment close to home.

The position will be organizationally part of the Family Support Unit but will primarily work socially at two of the municipality's preschools in close collaboration with the principal and special educator. Support will be available from other colleagues at the Family Support Unit. Supervisors from the Family Support Unit will also be available for support in working with children and parents.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain trusting relationships with children, guardians, and staff.
• Offer and conduct counseling sessions with guardians as needed.
• Contribute the social worker's and social services' expertise to preventive work, based on their profession in close collaboration with the preschool principals and special educators.
• Support preschool staff with knowledge of the social services' assignments and measures.
• Spread knowledge and create understanding of the intentions behind the new Social Services Act.
• Collaborate with preschool staff and other actors to early identify families' need for support.
• Participate in contexts within the Family Support Unit deemed suitable to act as a bridge between preschool and social services.

Qualifications

You are educated as a social worker or have a university education that the employer assesses as equivalent. You should have experience in psychosocial work with young children and their families. Experience from work in preschools, schools, family centers, etc., is desirable. We would also like you to have experience with the social services' authority practice. Meritorious qualifications include parent education and methods aimed at young children, further education in parent-supporting methods, e.g., ABC, Martemeo, the Safety Circle. We believe in close collaboration with several actors to prevent and promote work regarding the best interests of the child. To succeed in this assignment, you need to have a high degree of empathy, enjoy challenges, and have experience working independently and handling complex situations. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
