Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life.
What is SI?
SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction – Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a highly successful pedagogical model developed in the USA in the 1970s and has spread to many universities worldwide, including Lund University.
What we offer
As an SI-leader for a course at the Faculty of Humanities and Theology, you will be employed as a teaching assistant at one of the faculty's departments and will receive your SI-leader training from the European Centre for SI-PASS. An employment as an SI-leader gives you a glimpse into the academic world. In addition to deepened subject knowledge and leadership experience, you will have the opportunity to build professional contacts within the relevant department and faculty. You will also become part of a global network comprising SI-leaders in several countries, with opportunities to participate in international conferences and establish international contacts. Former SI-leaders have proven to be highly competitive on the job market.
Lund University is a government agency and offers good employment conditions.
As a student, an employment as a teaching assistant gives you the opportunity to combine studies with work, complementing your theoretical knowledge with practical work experience within academia.
Read more on the university's website about Working with us.
Responsibilities
You will work in close collaboration with both teachers and those responsible for the SI program in your department, as well as with other SI-leaders, both within and outside the same subject. You will also be invited to regular methodological guidance meetings led by the SI-responsible methodological supervisor.
As an SI-leader, you will regularly organize SI-PASS sessions for the students in the relevant course. By discussing concepts and issues from the course material together, students can collaboratively find answers and solutions. In this role, you act as a discussion leader, sounding board, and mentor, rather than a teacher.
Your responsibilities as an SI-leader include, briefly:
- Preparing, scheduling, and leading one SI-PASS session per week in the relevant subject
- Recording student attendance and writing a reflective report after each SI-PASS session
- Participating regularly in SI methodological guidance meetings
- Providing feedback to other SI-leaders 1–2 times per term after observed SI-PASS sessions
- Other tasks may also occur
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a teaching assistant, you must be actively studying at the undergraduate or advanced level at Lund University and have not yet received your degree.
The requirements for the position are:
- You are admitted to a program at Lund University
- You have participated in SI-PASS as a student (if offered in the courses you have taken)
- You have taken and passed the relevant course (FTEA13) or equivalent
- You are on track with your studies
- You are responsible, communicative, and cooperative
- You possess good language skills in the language in which the course is conducted
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
Merits for the position include:
- You have very good grades in the relevant course
- You have leadership experience
- You can work independently
- You have shown commitment in your studies
- You have shown commitment in previous SI participation
- You are interested in pedagogy, group dynamics, and leadership
- You are continuing active studies in the relevant subject
Other information
The employment is fixed-term for the period 2026-08-24 to 2026-12-18 with a workload of 10% of full-time. The employment must not negatively affect the teaching assistant's studies. Regulations concerning educational employment as a teaching assistant are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapter 5, Sections 8-12.
How to apply
Applications are submitted via Lund University's recruitment system, Varbi, and must include the following documents: CV, cover letter, Ladok transcript, and admission decision for Autumn Term 2026 (HT26).
- In your cover letter, you should explain how the position matches your merits and competencies, and reflect on the significance of SI for students.
- The Ladok transcript must show that you have taken the relevant course and that you are on track with your studies.
- The admission decision must prove that you are admitted to a program at Lund University. If you are admitted to a bachelor's program, attach the admission decision from the application round. If you have not yet received your admission decision for HT26, you are responsible for sending it in as soon as it is issued.
We look forward to receiving your application!
