Gamleby Folk High School is now looking for an engaged teacher for our textile team with the possibility of also teaching on some of our special courses. Here, you will work in a thematic and cross-disciplinary manner where you plan, implement, and evaluate teaching both independently and in collaboration with colleagues. We continuously develop teaching through joint work, giving you the opportunity to participate in the school's pedagogical development.

The position also includes active mentorship where you follow the participants' studies and development over time. You coach and support them in their learning and contribute to their personal development, while helping them achieve their study goals. Teaching takes place in small groups, which gives you good conditions for building strong relationships with both participants and colleagues.

The position is a temporary assignment of 50% during the period 2026-08-17 to 2027-06-18 and is a holiday position.

About you

We are looking for you who have an academic education in pattern making and sewing, or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent. It is meritorious if you have experience from the teaching profession, preferably from folk high schools, and knowledge of the textile industry. Knowledge of textile craft techniques and textile history is useful in the position.

You are a regular user of digital tools and administrative systems, such as Google Workspace, Word, Excel, Schoolsoft, as well as tools for plagiarism and AI control. It is meritorious if you have experience using Adobe programs and generative AI in teaching or development work. You thrive in a role where you can contribute to making the activity visible and marketing it at fairs, open houses, and in meetings with the surrounding society.

As a person, you are proactive and independently drive teaching and development work forward, and you are happy to contribute new ideas to the school's joint work. You are stable and secure in your professional role, which means you can handle different situations in the classroom and create a calm and secure learning environment. You easily build trusting relationships with participants, colleagues, and partners.

You have a holistic view of education and see the connection between the participants' studies, their personal development, and the school's joint activities. Furthermore, you have problem-solving skills and can identify challenges in teaching, analyze causes, and find solutions together with colleagues and participants.

If you play an instrument or sing, it is a plus, as music and joint cultural activities are an important part of the school's social environment.

Gamleby Folk High School in Västervik Municipality celebrates 150 years in 2026 and is located in a beautiful natural setting by Gamlebyviken. Here, participants on general and special courses meet in a creative study environment characterized by our values: curiosity, participation, and sustainability. We have an extensive operation with general courses as well as courses focused on sustainable textiles, media, and photography. The school also trains assistant nurses, leisure leaders, and social pedagogues. Approximately 50 employees work at the folk high school.

Gamleby Folk High School is a relatively small school with about 200 course participants, and we actively work to create meetings between participants from different courses through joint activities. Here, there are great opportunities to influence both the positive development of participants and the school. Teaching takes place in small study groups, which creates good conditions for building strong relationships between teachers and participants. To create an stimulating, active, and creative study environment, we value social-pedagogical work, engagement in joint school activities, a lively boarding school life, and cross-course collaborations.

We have a pleasant boarding school and a appreciated own kitchen at the school. The proximity to the archipelago and nature provides good opportunities for outdoor life and contributes to a secure and study-motivating environment.

The administration area for education includes five basic units, library development, and the four folk high schools: Gamleby Folk High School, Kalmar Folk High School, Vimmerby Folk High School, and Öland Folk High School. The folk high schools offer a wide range of education that contributes to raising the educational level in the county. Library development initiates, leads, and coordinates the county's joint development work within the library area. We are part of the regional development administration that together works for growth and development issues in Kalmar County.
