Do you want to work with reactor safety for new and existing nuclear power and contribute to developing the authority's knowledge and ability to handle current radiation safety issues?

We are looking for engaged investigators for the System Technology unit. You will be organizationally placed in the System Technology unit, which is responsible for developing knowledge and providing background material for the authority's positions in the development of legislation, policies, strategies, and other steering instruments within the unit's areas of responsibility. The unit is also responsible for international work within its areas of responsibility, including the development of international standards. The unit also acts as a competence support within its areas of responsibility towards the authority's other operations. The location of employment is Gothenburg, Katrineholm, or Solna.

About the role

We offer you a job where you will investigate issues regarding new and existing nuclear power, follow developments in system technology and plant safety both nationally and internationally, and be part of supporting cases related to supervision and licensing. You are offered the opportunity to initiate and follow up on research projects and authority-supporting projects. You will develop in a knowledge-intensive environment in collaboration with engaged colleagues with deep competence in various subject areas, and you are given good opportunities to influence the direction of the work.

Your main tasks:

• design principles of nuclear reactors as well as other nuclear and other facilities at the plant and functional level
• probabilistic safety assessments (PSA) and background for risk-informed decision-making
• analysis of nuclear reactors and other nuclear facilities with regard to internal and external events
• monitoring and evaluation of relevant foreign radiation safety events at nuclear power plants and international reporting of relevant Swedish radiation safety events.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

• a Master of Science in Engineering or other education that the authority deems relevant for the position
• knowledge of nuclear reactors including barriers, defense-in-depth structure, safety functions, SAR, etc.
• experience in investigation or review work
• ability to participate in international work related to international reporting
• ability to coordinate and/or lead work at the national and international level
• good ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.

It is meritorious if you have knowledge and experience in any of the following areas:

• safety principles and safety philosophy in the nuclear field or in other operations with high safety requirements
• experience of international multilateral cooperation at the authority level
• process systems
• control and instrumentation (I&C)
• design of nuclear power plant electrical power systems
• probabilistic safety assessments (PSA)
• external events and evaluation of site selection
• nuclear safety, nuclear security, and non-proliferation in a broad sense
• experience in the MTO/HFE area
• operation of nuclear reactors
• experience of safety analysis and/or design work within nuclear reactors
• research-related tasks
• experience of investigation or review work within public operations
• knowledge of licensing and supervision within public operations.

To function well in the role of investigator, you need to have the ability to see things from a holistic perspective and take on both an advisory and executive role. Since you will have both internal and external contacts, you need to have good cooperation skills in combination with national as well as international stakeholder management within the unit's subject matters.

To succeed in the role, you need to be self-reliant and able to take responsibility for driving the work forward, as well as being able to draw relevant conclusions from available information, both at the unit level and at the authority level. Furthermore, you need to have a good ability to document and communicate the results of completed work in a clear and pedagogical way. Finally, you need to have high integrity.

About the employment

The employment is permanent with a start date as agreed. The employment may begin with a probationary period of six months. You will be employed as an investigator. Since we strongly believe in collaboration between colleagues, we want you to work from the office for the majority of your working time, but you also have the opportunity to work from home part of the time. Travel for work purposes occurs.

An employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security clearance with register check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our security-classed tasks, Swedish citizenship is required.
