About Us

Östbergskolan is a grades 4–9 school with approximately 420 students, including an after-school center, located centrally in Östersund on the island of Frösön. We are close to outdoor activities and nature, and within cycling distance to Östersund's city center and other districts. Here, active outdoor life alternates with a developing work environment – it is close to work, friends, and school. Östersund is also an expanding university city where research and business develop together, new districts are emerging, and offerings are broadening. Your New Role

As a special needs teacher, special education teacher, or teacher in this role, you will work together with another teacher on pedagogical development, based at our study farm. The focus is primarily on students who need extra support. You will work within the school's entire grades 4–9 structure, but mainly from the lower secondary level (grades 7–9). You will be part of the school's Student Health Team (EHT), provide guidance to staff, and work actively with students and guardians, subject teachers, and mentors. Your tasks include mapping, student health meetings, individual support, and collaboration. You will also assist with action plans and teaching.

We view relationship-building work as crucial and place great emphasis on finding the right person for the study farm, rather than focusing solely on a specific teaching certification. Currently, two special needs teachers work in the team, divided between the middle school and lower secondary levels. The school has two school social workers who act as attendance coaches close to the students, as well as other members of the student health team that you will become part of.

Requirements

• Qualified Special Needs Teacher, Special Education Teacher, or Teacher.
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Strong ability to build relationships.
• Good collaboration skills.

Merits

• Experience working with the later years of primary school.
• Experience working closely with students who struggle to achieve goals in primary school.

We are looking for someone with clear and strong leadership skills and the ability to capture and inspire student groups and colleagues. You constantly develop teaching and support students in their learning process, with a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and their different prerequisites. You have a good ability to create good relationships, are clear and attentive, have good collaboration skills, and resolve conflicts constructively.

We would appreciate it if you could coordinate groups, serve as a reference point for others, and create engagement and participation. You plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively. You express a positive attitude towards your work, the operation, and the organization. You act in accordance with decisions made, the operational plan, goals, policies, and guidelines. You have in-depth knowledge of mathematics learning and/or reading and writing acquisition.

We would appreciate it if you are driven by goal- and result-oriented thinking in prioritization, planning, and action. You have the ability to change your direction when goals or prerequisites change, and you are well familiar with the school's governing documents.
