This is your assignment

Personal protection is one of the Swedish Security Service's five areas of operation, alongside legislative protection, counter-espionage, counter-terrorism, and security protection. The mission within personal protection has grown, and we now intend to establish a Personal Protection Department responsible for protecting the central government leadership. Personal protection consists of many parts, including protection technology, secure transport, and close protection. The department's responsibilities include providing, developing, and quality-assuring resources and methods within the department's mission.

A primary task for the department head is to establish the new department.

As the department head, you are part of the agency's management group, where you actively contribute to the mission of developing and directing the Swedish Security Service's operations from a holistic perspective. The role includes responsibility for personnel, working environment, and budget.

You are responsible for broadly directing, prioritizing, monitoring, and leading the operations conducted within the department. Together with the department's management group, you develop strategies and working methods to meet the agency's need for balanced administration and development within the established frameworks. In this role, you are also responsible for leading and developing the department's capabilities from a preparedness and total defense perspective, as well as maintaining a good security culture.

Your work touches many parts of the agency, where collaboration is central to your role and a prerequisite for succeeding in the mission. The role involves close cooperation with other managers, as well as developing collaborations with other agencies and organizations both nationally and internationally. As a representative of the Swedish Security Service, you represent the agency externally, for example, at the Government Offices.

Your placement is at the headquarters in Solna. Travel within and outside Sweden occurs. The position includes on-call duties.

These are the qualifications we are looking for in you

  • Police education and/or relevant academic education, or alternatively other education deemed equivalent when combined with professional experience.
  • Several years of current experience leading other managers in a large and complex organization.
  • Experience working in a management group at a strategic level.
  • Good understanding of the political context in which the agency operates.
  • Very good knowledge of the Swedish Security Service and understanding of the special conditions that apply to a security service.
  • Experience leading change and development work in a large and complex organization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with crisis and preparedness issues.
  • Interest and overall understanding of IT and technology development.
  • Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
  • Very good collaboration skills.

You may also have competencies that add breadth and complementary perspectives. If you can contribute with any or several of the following, it is meritorious:

  • Experience of the Swedish Security Service's operations.
  • Several years of current experience leading police operations at a strategic and operational level.

Terms of employment

Employment at the Swedish Security Service involves placement in a security class requiring Swedish citizenship. For employment, a passed result in the security investigation with register check is also required, conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act.

This is a permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period. We apply individual salary setting. Employment entails an obligation to be placed in wartime duties.
