About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and prisoner transport.

Job Description

As a cook, you prepare meals primarily for the inmates at the remand prison, but also to some extent for the staff. The tasks include all typical duties in a large kitchen, such as planning, purchasing, and preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The role also involves cleaning the kitchen facilities, dishwashing, and self-control measures in accordance with current legislation. Preparation of diet food and other special diets is also part of the work. The job is performed in collaboration with staff in other functions. It is important that you are a confident person capable of working independently. We are looking for a substitute who can step in when regular staff are not present. At the Remand Prison in Örebro, three cooks work on a rotating schedule, seven days a week, between 07:00–16:30.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is confident, stable, and self-aware. You remain calm and controlled in stressful situations and work well with others. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A restaurant or large-scale catering education at the upper secondary level, or alternatively other education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• The ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

The following are also meritorious:

• Experience working in a large kitchen
• Experience working with self-control measures
• Experience working with special diets
• Relevant language skills
