A full-time doctoral position is linked to the educational place during the training period, which corresponds to four years.

Job Responsibilities

The position mainly involves doctoral studies where the candidate independently, but with support from supervisors, will plan and conduct scientific studies in Information Design focusing on user interfaces and usability of health and medical technology data. Specifically, the doctoral project aims to contribute to the development of user interfaces that can assist in assessing the health status of individuals. This may involve systems intended for already ill individuals, where it is important to diagnose and monitor health conditions, or systems intended for healthy individuals for preventive purposes, where the focus is on facilitating the individual's ability to maintain health and enhance well-being. The design of the user interface also aims to enhance the user's understanding and support the user in acquiring knowledge about the situation and the possible effects of various interventions/actions/decisions/behaviors.

Areas that are important in the project, where the doctoral student may work with one or more parts, include user-friendly sensor systems for monitoring health data, reliable measurements of health data and data communication in distributed environments, as well as reliable distributed signal processing and AI.

The doctoral education includes both literature studies and empirical studies, scientific writing of articles and dissertations, dissemination and oral presentation of research results, as well as completing doctoral courses.

As a doctoral student, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and conducting your studies, take initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and be able to collaborate with others both within and outside the academy. Teaching or other assignments may be included in the position up to a maximum of 20%.

The position is part of the interdisciplinary initiative Human and Technology, Health Technology, and Information Design where researchers meet and collaborate. As a doctoral student, you will also be part of the research group in Information Design where you are expected to contribute to the development of the orientation.

Eligibility Requirements

For basic eligibility for doctoral education, one of the following is required:

• degree at an advanced level
• at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 at an advanced level
• otherwise, in Sweden or abroad, acquired equivalent knowledge.

Special eligibility for admission to Innovation and Design is for those who have:

• master's degree or 60 credits at an advanced level in a main area/subject relevant to the current doctoral education project

Requirements for employment include good oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria

A fundamental assessment criterion is the ability to benefit from doctoral education. In addition to this ability, the following knowledge and experience are meritorious:

• experience in conducting a user-centered design process
• experience and knowledge of user interfaces
• knowledge and experience of Human factors, cognitive ergonomics, technical psychology, or information design
• experience in collecting qualitative and/or quantitative data
• experience in analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data
• experience in data visualization
