Student Assistant at Umeå Municipality

The Gymnasium and Adult Education Board is responsible for the municipality's commitments under school legislation for upper secondary school, adapted upper secondary school, municipal adult education, special education for adults, and Swedish language instruction for immigrants. The board is also responsible for work-oriented rehabilitation and the municipal refugee reception. We are now looking for a student assistant who wants to contribute to a safe and structured school environment where students can grow – both socially and academically.

Your Responsibilities

You will work in the school supporting students in their knowledge development based on their individual conditions. Your tasks include assisting in teaching, clarifying assignments, and planning work together with teachers and other assistants. You will be close to the students in the classroom, during breaks, and during taxi pick-ups and drop-offs, as well as helping with changing clothes during sports and swimming.

As a student assistant, you will be part of a team with teachers and student health, where you together create safe, meaningful, and educational days for the students. You play an important role in creating a safe school environment and providing the right support for students to develop according to their abilities. A central part of your mission is to motivate and stimulate students in their development and learning. The role also includes some documentation.

About You

We are looking for someone with a high school education, preferably with a focus on childcare or nursing, or equivalent competence. Relevant work experience in AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) is required for the position. It is advantageous if you have experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, with low-arousal approaches, and with youth with special needs or in educational activities.

You are a secure and stable adult who serves as a good role model and easily connects with students. You see each individual and contribute to creating a safe and supportive school environment. You collaborate well with others and have a calm and respectful approach. We work based on a low-arousal approach where personal calm is an important foundation. In the role, you need to take significant personal responsibility and have patience in your interactions with students. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.

To develop students' language skills and communicate with students, guardians, and colleagues, document, and access the school's governing documents, you need to have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.

In accordance with the law on suitability checks, a police record extract must be presented upon employment.
