Workplace Description

The Botanical Garden at Lund University (LUBT) is a place where botany and horticulture meet science and the public. With about 7,000 different plant species and over half a million visitors annually, the garden is a central meeting place for research, education, and recreation. We also participate in national and international conservation projects and actively work to spread knowledge about the importance of plants and biodiversity.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

During the 2026 season, we are looking for a staff member for our greenhouse team, where you, together with colleagues, will be responsible for our greenhouse environments with seven different climates and plants from around the world.

We welcome you if you have experience in similar work and good knowledge of how to handle, care for, and develop plants from different regions. You feel comfortable working with greenhouse technology and adjusting and monitoring technical systems to ensure optimal climate conditions.

As the person responsible for a plant collection, daily care such as watering, biological pest control, pruning, and ongoing supervision is included.

You will be part of a schedule where you work weekends, distributed among approximately 8 people.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Daily care of plants, including watering, pruning, and biological pest control
  • Ensure and adjust the correct climate in the greenhouses
  • Documentation, inventory, and updating of plant information
  • Contribute to good collaboration within the greenhouse team and the garden as a whole
  • Help fulfill LUBT's strategic goals, including solution-oriented discussions on ways to increase sustainability and improve visitor experience, among others.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • At least a 3-year horticultural education with a focus on cultivation
  • Experience working with tropical and subtropical plant material in greenhouse environments
  • Experience with greenhouse technology and climate control
  • Good physical condition – the work may involve heavier tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Experience with biological pest control

Desirable for the position is:

  • Experience in building greenhouse environments from the ground up, including material selection and plant layout design.

Other

The position is a seasonal employment with a workload of 100%, starting from 2026-03-01 to 2026-12-31, or by agreement.
