Musician for the Defense Music
The Defense Music (Fömus) is the Swedish Armed Forces unit responsible for military music. The unit is organizationally placed within the Life Guards. The main task is state ceremonies with music during national holidays, the opening of the Parliament, state visits, royal audiences, changing of the guard with a guard parade, and participation in higher command and unit activities within the Armed Forces. Additionally, a wide range of concert activities is offered, primarily during the winter months.
The full-time employed bands of the Defense Music are the Army Band, the Life Guards' Cavalry Band, and the Navy Band. The Defense Music also has functional responsibility for the 25 Home Guard bands, from Boden in the north to Ystad in the south.
The Army Band is a band for parade and ceremonial activities as well as a symphonic wind orchestra for concert activities in various genres and with varying focus. The band, consisting of 53 musicians, is based in Häggvik, Sollentuna. Collaboration occurs with the other bands.
Main Responsibilities
- Marching performances in ceremonies, parades, and figurative displays
- Participate in concerts with orchestras and ensembles
- Participate in recording sessions and live performances
- Other tasks that may promote the band's activities, such as participating in work and project groups within the Defense Music
Working Conditions
- The work takes place at various locations with irregular working hours and in varying conditions and environments, both indoors and outdoors, in Sweden and abroad
- Performances are conducted in uniform
Qualifications
- Music education at university level or equivalent competence
- Very good physical condition for marching performances
Meritorious
- Completed military service/basic military training
- Driving license B

About the Position:
This advertisement concerns a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement.
Individual salary setting applies. Applicants must be Swedish citizens. A passed security clearance with a background check is a requirement for employment.
Employees within the Armed Forces are offered three hours of physical training per week during working hours. Good training opportunities are available in and around the band's facilities in Sollentuna.

The Life Guards is one of the largest units in the Armed Forces with roots dating back to 1521. We train tomorrow's soldiers, as well as military police and personnel for international missions. We guard the royal palaces, have security and ground combat units. We are also responsible for preserving and developing the Swedish military music tradition. Our headquarters is in Kungsängen outside Stockholm, but we are also located in Sollentuna, central Stockholm, Uppsala, Gothenburg, and Karlskrona.
