At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The activities consist of five sections; pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a researcher, based at the Section of Clinical Neuroscience.

Extensive research on neuroinflammation, with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis (MS), is conducted at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology, Section of Clinical Neuroscience. The research aims to identify biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid to improve diagnostics, prediction of disease activity, severity, and progression, as well as to evaluate treatment effects. In recent years, particular emphasis has been placed on improving assessment methods to identify patients with smoldering MS, that is, gradual deterioration not associated with relapses. The mechanisms behind this deterioration will be studied in more detail using soluble biomarkers, quantitative MRI, optical coherence tomography (OCT), cognitive measurements, and various functional tests.

The MS research group also has national and international collaborations regarding MS registry studies, guidelines for assessing MS progression, and care and treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease (NMOSD).
